The answer is Colwill.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No chance we’re paying what Chelsea would be asking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No chance Salah stays without CL football, no chance we dign AMA, etc, etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He won’t be far off the cost of Gvardiol. Really see that happening?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think there's a chance, yes.

Can’t dismiss the possibility. Whatever anyone on here says, the club will pay top dollar for the right player. He’d be a ‘bigger’ picture signing, like Nunez and Allison and VVD before him. We’d be buying them for 5/6/7 years so nowhere near as expensive as the face value. Seems we have the same thoughts on Lavia.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm one of those that believes the club will pay big money for the right players (albeit there is a ceiling as we found out with JB), but there surely has to be a limit?

When we signed VVD he'd played 2.5 seasons in the EPL, had 20 odd caps for Holland. He was established to an extent.

Alisson had played CL football, again 20 odd caps for Brazil. Nunez, 2 seasons with Benfica, CL experience and better than a goal every other game in both competitions, full international.

Colwill has started 13 EPL games (total of 17 played).

I'm not saying he's not worth it because I simply don't know if he is or isn't. But if the reports are true and Chelsea want record (or near record) defender money for him then we're going to have to be pretty damn sure he's generational talent level.

posted on 5/7/23

well yeah, they wont bid big money if they dont think he is

only seen him 4 times myself, thought he looked great, im sure the data/scout team have heavily looked into him if we are interested

I guess those in the know can just see some player’s ceilings and natural ability far better than any of us can. Plenty on here think they know far more than the pro’s, but there’s a reason they’re posting on here and the pro’s are pro’s…..

They need to take £100m off the wage bill according to some reports, and want to achieve an average of £75k.

Colwill is on £15k a week, been shunted put on loan twice and is in the final two years of his contract.

It's a long shot bit a staggered deal may work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is he that good? I’ve seen nothing of him

This seems far more like a reason to keep Colwill and move on the likes of Thiago Silva rather than sell the young talented player on low wages…

But uts not, because on their books Colwill will count as pure profit.

Why do you think Brighton bid and we've enquired? Because there's a chance he's available, that's why.

To be fair it's equally as funny when ja posters moan about not spending and then we won the league.

Maybe we should all give up

Some poster moan so much so they simply have to be right occasionally - law of averages

My point about Colwill was that as a club we don't usually go all out (which is what I'm assuming it would take in terms of an offer) for a player who has so little track record.

Perhaps our approach is changing, Lavia is another with a limited number of games. And Klopp did explicitly state he wanted us to take more risks. A massive bid for a kid with half a season under his belt would certainly be that.

All this. Szoboszlai is a great example. As is Nunez. Alisson had one season of seria a football under his belt and we made him the most expensive keeper of all time.

The narrative that we don't spend has always been utter bollox from armchairs anyway, but it's looking even dafter atm. Which is nice.

Chelsea need money and a lot of it.

So they could offer Colwill a 6 figure increase in wages, so agent fee, a signing on fee and be committed to that for 5 years or they could cash in.

We could spread that cost over the course of the contract, as we dud with Jota and Thiago.

It's not a banker but it's an open secret we're looking at CB's and that we need HG players. Wouldn't surprise me on iota tbh.

posted on 5/7/23

We’re looking good.

Another midfielder at 6 position would be ideal however not the end of the world if it doesn’t happen.

Another CB would be next on my list.

i dont fancy any of our other midfielders playing dm if fabs injured, even baj best apps were when he wasnt the 6 but on the left of midfield 3

Yeah it's just him, Hendo and maybe Bajcetic.

I'd like to see us move a couple on now too.

Me either, hoping for better from him too though.

It'd be fine for the Europa though, certainly early doors and when we're more likely to field a less experienced side.

Play the likes of Henderson, Jones, Bajcetic, Elliott, Bradley in the Europa. Will be good for the young guys development.

Alisson was Brazil number 1 when we signed him - ahead of Ederson - and played every game at the 2018 World Cup and at the 2016 Copa America (although Brazil went out in the group stages).

Szoboszlai has made 216 career senior appearances with 62 goals including 91 appearances and 20 goals in the Bundesliga while winning two German cups.

Darwin Nunez scored 48 goals in 85 appearances for Benfica before joining us.

Colwill has 17 PL appearances total…

You may be right and we sign him and pay £80m for him but none of Nunez, Szoboszlai or Alisson were as high risk as the Colwill signing. Not even close.

So in reply to two posts which talk about how the club are not only willing to go big on players that they really like, but have now also spoken about taking more risks you've written a long post about how Colwill would pose a bigger risk?

Oh Fred.

We were talking about the suitability of spending big money on such a high risk signing.

You used Szoboszlai, Nunez, and Alisson as examples of high risk signings which I agree with but not “great examples” when comparing them to Colwill.

Hey, I don’t doubt he’d be a good signing but £4.7m per PL appearance is a different category of risk altogether…

Do keep up.

posted on 5/7/23

No I used them as examples of players that we go big on if we really like them.
