I always wondered why teams never focus on strengthening where they are weakest
Not just Liverpool
It's a difficult one, he looked a real talent at Ajax and physically looks the part, but hard to ignore the fact he has flopped hard at Bayern and their are questions over his work rate without the ball.
I'd take him as other options out there look limited. A £20m gamble on a player with a high ceiling looks more sensible than a huge £70m spend on an average player like Doucoure.
Will be extremely disappointed if we don't sign another midfielder before the window shuts, FSG will have let us down again if that is the case.

We're weakest in midfield. We have two backup centre backs that would walk into the first team of most teams in the league.

Now where have we seen that before?!

Somebody called De Bruyne or something? Or Salah perhaps?

Many consider Henry to be the greatest EPL player, had a really bad year with Juve. They couldn't see how to use him and in the end moved him on. It happens all the time.

I've watched him a load of times and thought he was decent at what he does, breaking play up, long legs to get there before the opposition, quick enough and decent carrying the ball. I've never seen anything to suggest he's good enough for a team that wants to challenge at the top or he's anything more than a £30m player.
I just don't see him in a Liverpool team.

Nope. I literally stated midfield is the priority. It's the priority because it's weakest. It's the weakest because we lost two first team players, both players who can play in the 6 role.
We have our two first choice centre backs available, none were sold. It is not a priority and whether you agree the two backups would walk into most teams in the league or not(they would) they are very capable backs. Ideally we'd replace Matip as he isn't quick enough in the current system, hence why he lost his place after having a great season previous. However a backup centre back is not the priority, a first team midfielder is clearly the priority.
Anybody who thinks differently is in Gash land of stupidity.
Kids, kids…
Both the midfield and defence are awful.
Gravenbryne/Graventelli a CB and Andre in January perhaps?
Graven..... who replaces Thiago for next season and the CB replaces Matip, again for next season. Sets us up for the future and the here in now. Bacjetic and Endo with Thiago and Mac as alternatives until January.
Dacoure at 70m could also work but for me that's more of a gamble.

I do think midfield is the more pressing area of concern but not signing a CB would be a mistake. The club clearly don’t think Phillips is good enough as he never plays so we need somebody in who is reliable and can actually play at the level we need.
VVD aside our centre backs will all spend time on the sidelines through injury so it’s just another year of hoping those injuries don’t coincide. Same mistake we’ve made in 2 of the last 3 seasons.

Let's wait at least to the window is shut before hanging people out to dry. Another CB and midfielderncan still happen, but time is ticking. Gravenbberch and a CB and things will be looking rosier.
Although tbf lose at the barcodes this weekend is fans will rightly question why it's taking so facking long, partly due of course to the club being embarrassed by the blue plastic club

Kids, kids…
Both the midfield and defence are awful.

For when TOOR, Term or Robbing inevitably scream and shout because they took this seriously, here is the joke…

Trouble with CB is not moving on Phillips (or even Matip or Gomez). Not Impressed with Schmadtke on this front either tbh.
There's room in the squad for two though, so you never know. May get a midfielder and a CB.

Schmadtke clearly doesn’t give a shiiit. He was an interim hire during a summer where we needed future planning. Utter farce of an appointment. Some blame has to be at Klopp’s door for this one if he had any part in the decision.
He is a great head coach but needs to stop trying to exert his influence in club management.
