My main worry with that calibre of manager isn't even if they can make the step up to be honest, it's how it'll be viewed by the players.

Can't imagine VVD or even Trent wanting to stay if they aren't immediately impressed by whoever comes in.

Alonso has that bit of aura and respect about him, Amorim does too based on what I've seen. Does someone like Slot or Frank or even De Zerbi?

I don’t think it’s too much to ask for someone who has won things and like I said, if you pay them enough, they generally come.

If it were not Edwards I’d be a bit concerned, but he has my trust.

A definite no the frank. No offence to the man and he’s performed well with Brentford but Liverpool are a different animal and I very much doubt he can make the step up. Also can he set a team up expecting to win most games rather than defending resolutely as Brentford do?

I don't think Brentford are a defensive team. They play decent football. For me many managers could set these current set of players up tactically and get a challenge out of them on multiple fronts. The main issue is getting the right character. One who is respected, who is a great man manager and motivator, who inspires the players. Not too many of them around!

Think he was just a regular member of recruitment at that point so wouldn't have been his call.

Yeah, this, in fact he was pretty junior I believe. He didn’t become sporting director until 2016, and Brendan left in 2015.

Why would it be a bad thing anyhow. Did Rodgers not build a team to play exciting football and challenge for the league?

Yes it fell apart in the end but then that was more down to circumstances beyond his control. Losing Suarez, Sturridge to injury, Gerrard aging and of course Sterling leaving after having to play as a lone striker and being our top goalscorer after Rodgers was given Lambert and Balloteli, against his wishes, as replacements for Suarez.

I mean if MacAllister turned 35 tomorrow and we lost Salah, Diaz and Nunez and replaced them with Jiminez and Martial, we'd free fall also, even with the much much better squad that has been developed over years, without losing our best players in their prime(apart from Coutinho).

Which terrible players did he sign?
Which players did he fail to keep?

I'll have to give you the talking crap one as he was partial to a good philosophy speech.

Also the analytics used to identify players back then was still primitive...we're wayyyy more advanced now.

As is the game in general tbh

Bad players: Balotelli, Lambert, Aspas, Assaidi, Markovic, Benteke, Manquillo, Sahin, Lovren, Alberto, Mignolet, Cissoko, Borini, Allen

Not a single one of these players was good enough for Liverpool.

Failed to keep: Sterling, Suarez

Now there’s some mitigating circumstances with the two sales but the signings were appalling. I’m not sure he improved many, if any, players either. On top of that, rather than wait for the right signings, he opted for the players above who just weren’t at the right level.

We've got a better more established team looking after things now. Look at the state of it when they brought Kenny in. It's chalk and cheese now.

This is why I'm more concerned about the new manager being a motivator and and man manager, rather than worrying about players signed.

I wouldn’t be against Frank. Klopp likes him and I trust his judgement entirely.

We need to accept that any manager will be a downgrade unless we can get Ancelotti which we can’t.

Rodgers was a breath of fresh air after Hodgson and Kenny but after Klopp, his tenure doesn't look as good anymore.

True but as I said above, the background team are much better now, there's a better structure which won't change due to the success of it. The manager gets to concentrate more on the players and not worry about losing players and players he doesn't rate being brought in.

I wonder if Inzaghi is a consideration. Has done a great job this season and went away from the defensive approach Inter have had for years.

Googled him and the first pic I saw was him in a flatcap a la Peaky Blinders.

Better than De Zerbi with the spiky hair I guess

Simeone & Inzaghi don't speak English. Also Simeone said he'll never manage in England...money talks though.

My wildcard would be someone like Hansi Flick tbh...I really can't remember what went wrong with him at Bayern but his Bayern side were undoubtedly the best in Europe that one season

He is a journeyman. I'd take Frank, fek that.
