I get that Arsenal have been impressive this year but I’m not sure I’d be using them as some sort of blueprint for success! Everything seems to be falling for them this season and they’re only 5 points better off than us.

Admittedly given our horrid form it may be more than that come the end of the season but I still see Arsenal as a team to compete with, not copy.

I hope the new coach has watched Arsenal in the first half. 6 physical players who don't give you time and space to shoot unlike our defenders and midfield. Edwards job is to give us some physical monsters at the back and midfield to bully those bottom 10 clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think we need to go that drastic. We just need a tall aggressive DM and keep the quality on the pitch. Arsenal score alot of set piece goals which is what we used to do when it was just VVD as the main threat who had Gomez as his partner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The tactic with two traditional fullbacks is outdated. I want ball winners at the back and midfield. City play basically 4 CBs with Rodri infront of them at the moment. I want at least 3 CBs with a tall physical DM.

We had our best period when we played Gomez left back. It allowed one of the 8s more licence to go forward.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle Walker is basically a CB in your world?

A lot of very good managers have been using him very badly if so.

Walker is similar to White, Ake, Gvardiol, Tomiyasu and Gomez. They lack the height to play as one of the 2 CBs but can rotate between the fullback and CB position in a 3/4 CB system.

Cruyff was the first to use fullbacks in central areas, centre halves with the technical quality to step into midfield, and the pace to defend the wide areas.
Basically rotating between fullback, centre half and defensive midfield, their job is essentially a hybrid of all three positions. Pep and Arteta just copied that tactic from him.

We will see what Slot will do at Liverpool. His Feyenoord team has Geertruida and Hancko who can both play the CB and fullback role.

I really don’t have time to get drawn into this, so I’ll just say that I fundamentally disagree that Kyle Walker is anything like Gomez. Or the others you listed for that matter.

I’d also argue that Gomez at 6’2” doesn’t lack the height to CB. He’s taller than Ruben Dias for example. Who himself is the same height as Gvardiol - someone else you think is too short to play CB (Pep would seem to disagree).

I'm not that bothered who wins the league but it'll be infuriating if City finally drop points in a close title race the first year it doesn't involve us

It did involve us, we just weren't good enough

Well another disappointing weekend of football and 3 more games left with Jurgen Klopp as our boss. Very sad how this era seems to be ending especially with a public fallout between our legendary manager and the standout player of his time here.

Rumours this morning of £150m bids for Mo Salah and I’d rip your arm off for that tbh.

Tbh I don’t think a point away at West Ham is a bad result, e manner of it wasn’t great though.

The thing with Salah is being blown WAY out of proportion too.

Well not be getting £150m for Salah with one year left I don’t think.

I also feel it’d be a mistake to let him go.

Yeah, it’s massive money and our biggest wage so I wouldn’t be angry with FSG or anything, it’s just business.

It's great money but there is no way Saudi are going to pay more for a player who is a year older and has 1 year left on his contract. £150m has been plucked out of the air. It will be 60-70m.

Also as I keep saying, Mo has to agree the move too and the comments he has made is wanting to stay here post Klopp and also have another crack at the CL rather than play against Gerrard's El Attifaq with 300 people watching.

If he might be tempted to resign sure, but you can’t turn down £150m for a player who’s 32, showing signs of being over the hill, and able to walk away on a free in 12 months.

We aren’t City or PSG we need that money. It would be a mistake to keep him if offered that kind of money.

I think there’s a good chance he stays too Kash, and I hope he does.

Absolute fvck load of recency bias at work on this thread.

So yesterday Arsenal scored 2 corner goals with in-swigging corners. Keeper could not deal with it.

Our last 2 corner goals have come from in swinging corners but after we score we got back to out swingers. I don't get our obsession with out swingers which is like 90% of the time.

Against Spurs every corner has to be an in swinger and this is something I hope Slot is a fan off.

No, it’s forward thinking, nothing to do with recency bias. Even if he’s scored 30 goals this year and been absolutely superb I’d think the same thing.

This reminds of Barry writing articles about not wanting to be in Europe so that they can have a better chance of getting top four

150m would be huge for us, surprised we turned it down in jan tbh. Guess Salah isnt really keen really.

Salah is more than just a football player for Saudi. He’s the absolute crown jewel of that project, they have more money than god, and if we hold firm for a price we will get it.

Because we aren’t the sort of football club that can turn our nose up at £150m for another year of Salah. If Klopp was still staying maybe, but next year will be a year of great transition, we aren’t going to be challenging for major honours so giving the new manager an additional £150m to get a headstart on assembling a squad to suit his style of play is a major boost.

If it’s less than say £75m, maybe it’s a different conversation.

This notion that we don't have money needs to stop.
