It’s not looking overly promising. If he is then I think he made his mind up some time ago.

Ive seen a few clips of Trent his body language etc he seems so relaxed and enjoying it. Like hes 35 and knows its his last season and just gna go out enjoying every moment. Doesnt wanna be subbed even for last 10 mins bit ott reaction also makes me think cause last season it means more? Hopefully im wrong ofc. Hoping theyre all just relaxed and been told bytheclub contracts will be sorted.

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season is what I will say.”

I didnt realise he said this. What a snide answer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s an odd thing to say, doesn’t actually mean anything. He’s probably getting fed up of being asked about it every week.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
100% take your point on board but in fairness to all us fans we are getting fed up with the cryptic rubbish. Just give us it straight. Dead simple "I want to stay we are working on it" or "I'm off and I'll give my all this season".

Correction, Owen didn’t leave on a free but ran his contract down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s the difference?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We got a fee for Owen, albeit pittance.

Rumours yesterday that we’re interested in Frimpong, Palacios, and Wirtz from Bayer. Would be superb business but can’t see it happening.

Re, Trent his emotions at the end of last year were a big hint to me that he’s likely off.

I can’t believe though that the club would be stupid enough to let yet another huge money asset walk on a free. We are so poorly run when it comes to contracts.

Players do run down their contracts to give themselves options, it's just part of the game I'm afraid. Trent is already our 3rd highest earner (behind Mo and VVD) so it's not like he's on a (relatively) low salary - he could afford to take his time on a very good contract and assess his options. The signing on fees these players can get mean they'd be daft not to consider doing it.

The biggest clubs, some considered to be well run, have lost valuable players on frees - the likes of Dortmund, Bayern, City, RM. Mbappe and Messi went on frees. Lewandowski, Ibra, Pirlo, Pogba, Raul, Ballack, Alaba, Goretzka - honestly, practically every big club has lost players: https://www.transfermarkt.com/the-50-best-free-transfers-in-the-21st-century/index/galerie/1077

It's been in the news this week that Bayern have given up hope of keeping Alphonso Davies.

Seems a bit daft to me that as fans we'd beat the club up for being pretty much the same as most other big clubs.

RM ain't going to want the 27/28 year Trent and pay a fee. He has probably been told that it's now or never.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By that time he could be even better and if so they'd be more than happy to pay a fee I'm sure.

Still hurts though, especially being someone at the club so long. Trent leaving is also an admission that we're not the top club for him, which whilst obvious still stings the pride.

Reminds me of Torres and Sterling leaving tbh

posted 3 weeks, 4 days ago

Mixed feelings really. Personally I don’t think he’d be doing us wrong, he doesn’t owe us a fee and he’s been with us a long time, winning everything, whilst being a top pro. If he went to Madrid and picked up a dozen major trophies I’d be proud I think.

Flip side is, he’ll never get the adulation he does here. Never, in fact they can turn on you very quickly over there. He’ll never captain his home club to a CL win if he leave. Never lift the league. We’re not exactly shiiiiiit.

He may stay too, the full quote is that he has signed four or five extensions in his time here, they’ve never played out in public, and this one won’t either.

We’ll see. He looks up for it so let’s enjoy it while we can I guess.

It'll sting, no doubt about it. He's a wonderful player and a local lad, horrible to lose that type of player.

Does feel different to the likes of Torres and Sterling to me though. I'd equate them more to the likes of Kane - they left because they wanted to win things and the chances of doing that with us, at that time, were low.

Trent has won the biggest prizes with us and the team is well set to continue to compete in the coming years. IMO RM would be an opportunity to play for what looks like one of the great club sides. If you look at their squad it genuinely could be considered one of the best ever in a few years time.

I don't really care what other clubs do or don't do, we aren't the sort of club that afford to see big money assets continually walk away on free transfers.

Im in agreement here as harsh as it may sound as I know what hes achieved for the club etc. But for him to leave the club that has given him his full education as a player for nothing when he knows his true value is anywhere between what 80-120m is pretty garbage for me.

We'll see what happens down the way. Im not bashing him yet. However if he does leave on a free its poor form personally.

You're prepared to criticise the club without paying any attention (or care) to what is increasingly the norm for clubs of about our size?

I'd be disappointed too and I'd far rather it didn't happen, but I'm not about to ignore the fact that players regularly do this across Europe.

Reading through this site over the last 48 hours, you'd never guess that Arsenal had taken a point off the team that have won 4 consecutive titles, away from home and with 10 men!

Their fans seem to be having some sort of collective breakdown.

I think I could somewhat handle Trent joining Madrid but leaving on a free would be shocking to be honest.

I know he didn't cost us anything but he's arguably a £100m player and we'll need that money if he wants out.

How are we supposed to prevent it? None of us know what’s actually going on. What if he’s set himself on RM and they’ve told him the only way it can happen is if they don’t pay a transfer fee? It’s exactly the kind of thing they would do and the club are powerless against it.

That article Term posted yesterday summarised it pretty fairly right, it's been a year or two of upheaval behind the scenes. In a way it's reassuring as it makes you think this is just something that slipped which we will try and resolve, rather than we're letting them run down their expensive contracts on purpose
