That would be pretty terrible, IMO.
The best alternative to a penalty shoot out in the final would be to have a replay.
Maybe unlimited, or extra, subs in extra time to give the extra 30 mins a fresher look and encourage more open play?
But I believe the penalty shoot out is the best solution. Maybe they should just scrap extra time and go straight to pens.

not solving pens, should change my title really as pens are still there and important
They should bring back Golden Goal.
Why should the team that ins pens have a 2 goal advantage going into extra time just because they converted more pens ??
Sounds unfair as no team is likely to score two goals in extra time.
Penalties are great. The solution is to skip extra time altogether and go straight to penalties.
that'sa better title
never think my articles through very well
Normal extra time did the job yesterday
I quite like the idea, is more fair that the team that loses the pens still has a chance

I agree.
It did, but I think games would be more exciting if it went straight to pens.

Golden goal was awful. Mostly attracted very negative, scared football. Also takes away the right to reply, which is not a great way of deciding a match.
i think it should go to penalties but the takers have to do it blindfolded and the keepers have to have their hands tied behind their backs

Pens aren't great though.
The team that wins the shootout wins the contest but they don't win the match.
Its an archaic way of deciding the contest of a football match and eventually someone will come up with something better.
Sadly not today though.
I quite like it and the extra time would be exciting, losing team would throw everything at them and make way for counter attacks...guess I'm on my own here then
They know it's going that way, in fact the greatest amount of goals in extra time probably happen because players do not want to lose on penalties.
If we skipped extra time and teams took ten penalties each it would be fairer as every player would be involved.
Number of fouls committed / cards issued could be taken into consideration after 90 mins.

You may as well say the ref should judge who he thinks were the better team.
if it went to a shootout spurs would lose so many more games. our players have less bottle than the hapless gooooners.
