I don't really like the live stats scoreboard though as it would stop players focussing 100% on the game.
_____
That's why we need to introduce quarters into the game so teams can break and see what the score is
Would be truly awful, especially if the game had been an enthralling one with goals, and good attacking play from each side.
----------------------------------
Stats amalgamation would reward the best team though.
Surely that's better than seeing a team play brilliant, dominate the game but lose on pens.

Imagine a cracking game, 2-2 both teams are attacking with flair and purpose. Then one teams stat man informs the boss they are comfortably up on the stats. Shut up shop, stop attacking, keep the ball in defence and kill the game.

That would be one possibility Mr C. Am I winning you over here?
Superb,,, work out your formula for this system. Post it here. Then find the relevant stats for yesterday's 90 minutes before ET, apply your formula to the game and give us your findings.
Then do the same with about 100 other games.
Then you may convince me your idea is anything other than an Feminisation of football.

That would be to the severe detriment of any team that tried to do that though.
As I keep saying none of these stats would count when you are in your own half so any team that tried to sit back and defend in their own half would be severely penalised.
The attacking team would keep totting up points while the other team would stop accumulating any points for the duration that they are parking the bus.

How about a duel between the keepers? Both keepers get a gun with one bullet, back to back on the middle kick off spot. On the refs whistle each walk 20 steps towards their goal turn and shoot. Team with the shot keeper loses.

What happens, say, if the game is decided by who won most corners (if all other stats are 50:50) and it turns out that the corner was won incorrectly anyway?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With as many variables being taken into account the chances of that ever happening are absolutely minute. Millions to one probably.
How many times have you watched a game where all the stats have been 100% exactly equal after 90 minutes?
Has it ever happened before in the history of the game for as long as stats have been recorded ?
If so I'd love to see an example.

So instead of the enthralling end to the match with both teams chasing the win that you would have got, now you would have one team chasing possession and shot stats while the other is content to control possession in its own half and kill the game.
Most teams who "play for the draw" actually play to sneak 1-0 wins, and I cannot see this idea changing that one bit. It would not affect the 'park the bus' teams, but would stop the more attacking teams from going for a win.
Another scenario... One team is a massive underdog who see defending well as their only hope with the hope of snatching one goal from a set piece or breakaway. The other is an attacking, fluid, exciting team. The defensive team manages to keep it at 0-0 for 70 mins, does the attacking team (well ahead on stats, so much so it is virtually impossible for the opposition to win on stats) carry on attacking or decide that as long as they don't concede? Obviously they sit back more and take the draw. Can the underdog suddenly find players who can change the game? Unlikely.
Result? A drab 20 minutes to end the game.
People enjoy different aspects of the game. Let the people decide. Let the viewers decide. Obviously people in the country of the teams playing can't vote.
You then get the team going through that most people thought did the best job be it attacking or defending.
Power to the people.
Game management is a good way to sum up the stats idea.
An idea where scoring goals becomes less important than getting your stats up to a level where as long as you don't concede you will win.
A sport where teams will be as well off in getting meaningless possession in the opposition half as they would trying to win a match.
Not how football should be.
So instead of the enthralling end to the match with both teams chasing the win that you would have got, now you would have one team chasing possession and shot stats while the other is content to control possession in its own half and kill the game.
-----------------------------
As I keep saying stats in your own half count for nothing. So any team sitting back in their own half would gather no points while allowing the opposition the opportunity to amass more points.

But possession in your own half means no possession for the opposition, so when you are ahead in the stats it means everything. Teams will kill games off when they are winning on your stats. Your own manager would be king of it.
You don't get that once your are ahead on the stats you don't need to improve, you just need to stop the opposition improving.

A very dangerous game to play though if you are in a position where you are amassing no points while at the same time your opponent is constantly totting up points.
Either way there are ways round that problem like awarding points for dispossessing your opponent in his own half.
That would stop teams sitting back trying to prevent the opponent score points while at the same time encourage the attacking team to get forward and dispossess the opposition team.
I knew my idea would draw some critcism but to decide a game on stats!!? Fack me!!
Its a decent idea. Im onboard with it. Winning a match on something like 'shots blocked' would be incredible for the adrenaline.
