Gerrard played wide right for most of a season. The next he was moved in behind Torres. The rest is history.
Perhaps 'most overrated in the world' was a bit of a stretch but my point still stands.

2004/2005 I think.
Why don't you refresh your memory before giving it the big one to people on here?
Mamba - Here's one for you to suck on - Real Sosobad (U1282) (U13041)
It doesn't stand at all.
Almost everyone in the game recognises what an immense talent Scholes was, and how great he was for United.
Your comments are ludicrous, and clearly based on a rivalry that you can't put aside.

Why are you asking me these questions?
Even your own fans are on here, accepting he played wide right for one season.
Go and refresh your memory, and check your facts.

Sorry, it was 05/06.
Well wide right is what I found people calling it on this thread. Myself I wouldn't say Stevie played 'wide right'. Rafa was trying to find the best way to use him. I remember an interview where he said he would play him centrally if he could bring in enough quality in attack for him to supply.
I already said Scholes was very very good. But judging from the lists on this thread alone he is vastly overrated IMO. Nothing ludicrous about that. If you cant appreciate this opinion perhaps you are the one blinded by club loyalties.
Mamba - Here's one for you to suck on - Real Sosobad (U1282) (U13041)
Well, he played on the right of a midfield 4, so we can probably leave the debate about what that was called!
I had an interesting discussion on here with several Liverpool fans on here a while ago about it, and have a different opinion on the matter than I did before - I agree that Rafa seemed to be using what players he had in the best way he could, rather than rejecting Gerrard as a central midfielder as such.
But in the context of this debate, you can't tell us that the guy who played central midfielder in a two for United, winning countless trophies, is overreated and less of a complete player than the guy that was moved to the right of midfield and then finally into the 10 role?
I'm not criticising Gerrard - I'm taking exception to your comments about Scholes.
Mamba - Here's one for you to suck on - Real Sosobad (U1282) (U13041)
Scholes vastly overrated?
Tell you what - try and find non-Liverpool fans who agree with you.
He's one of the best players to grace the Premier League - of course it's a ludicrous thing to say.
I don't think you'll find many LFC fans who agree he was overrated. He was a Rolls Royce of a player and for aruond five years was peerless in the Prem before his eye went. Loved Scholes and that midfield was probably the most balanced I've seen.
Robbing_Hoody - Here, have some goals. You don't have to work for them. They're a gift. That's what we do now. (U6374)
Fair dos!
Taking exception to comments already said were perhaps over the top. Are you taking exception selectively? For me Scholes was very good but reading through this I found myself going against the current which leads me to say he is overrated. All the other players mentioned in the OP were better than him for me.

Somebody with simply no knowledge of football. For a start off as a goal scorer yes lampard is better than all of them. But passing, controlling of a football match, vision etc lampard isn't in the same league as scholesy
Mamba - Here's one for you to suck on - Real Sosobad (U1282) (U13041)
I don't think it is selective - because your comments about him being very good are superseded by your other comments.
As I originally said, I'm not expecting you to be reasoned with - but I think most of the football world would agree that your comments are ludicrous.
You're entitled to an opinion, of course, but to call one of Man Utd's greatest ever players vastly overrated is one of those times where I think an opinion can be dismissed.
Yes but scoring goals is the hardest thing to do even if you are getting umpteen deflections. Bar Gerrard and Seedorf the other three are specialists. Where as some clearly see Gerrard being more complete and able to play more positions as a negative I see it as a positive.
All very good players and I feel the one player who has been put on a pedestal is Pirlo. He too controls games but has never hit double figures in his life I don't think. If I had to pick a midfield 3 from the five in their prime it would be Seedorf, Scholes and Gerrard but that's because we're getting into the team element.
All very good players and threads like this always end up being disingenuous which I find irksome.
Not many will have Lamps up there for example jusy because of his style but to ignore all those goals is just daft in my opinion. His pssing is also underrated as I always felt he had a good range.
Depends on what vast means to you. For me putting Scholes at the top of that list is vast. Probably because I feel he should be at the bottom. I can understand if you disagree. Most do TBH but I wont say something I dont believe. You are completely within your rights to dismiss it though. Thats the way it works.
Robbing_Hoody - Here, have some goals. You don't have to work for them. They're a gift. That's what we do now. (U6374)
I always felt Lampard benefitted hugely from the formation of a 4-3-3 though.
I agree with most of what you say, but Scholes often played in a 4 man midfield, which has to be considered when we're discussing goals.
I'd pick the same three as you. Though as I've said previously, I still believe Gerrard could have been the best central midfielder in the world... but what do I know!
By that - I mean in the two main CM positions. He was utilised well by Benitez and has been exceptional for Liverpool.
But I still think he could have been better.
Pirlo
Seerdorf
Scholes
Gerrard
Lampard
Didn't see much of Seerdorf or Pirlo during their primes but heard a lot about Scholes and seen a lot of Gerrard and Lampard during their time.
Talking about formations and tactics I also theorise that Scholes benefitted a lot from having Fergie as manager. For some reason players performed very well for him and this last season under Moyes might have validated this theory. The new manager will have to bring in a lot of new players before United get back on that perch but that remains to be seen.
