This Rooney bashing ad nauseam really has to stop.
I am aware i was a vanguard of this movement and i still don't have much time for Rooney; but a lot of this is unwaranted and counter-productive and tbf, Rooney has been a good servant.
We really have to move on...
My issue with him been made captain isnt his stats over the years. It's his current form and ability. I dont think either warrant a captaincy. Should we be handing it out to those who've simply given us long periods of service, or should it go to someone who can make a difference leading on the pitch and shows some semblance of consistency and attitude?
--------
LVG Saudi his attitude has been top drawer. It's also well known now he's a leader in the dressing room and even young players at the World Cup, like sterling, were saying how much advise Rooney gives out
Let's pretend all that's just bollox though and appoint as united captain someone who sulked husband way through last season, who didn't want to play when he was told he was fit, and spent more time in holland than at United
See, I can believe garbage from the press too
"Care to explain how many years Rooney had been pants for now?"
Care to re read my article and tell me where I called him pants? I assume however you want me to tell you how many he's under performed for? Based on the expectations I HAD, and I dare say most united fans had, of him as a potentially world class player?

Can you tell me the last season he performed as you would have expected him to?

I've noticed one or two saying getting Falcao in is a strange decision now that RVP has categorically stated it's nonsense he requires surgery.
I just can't agree with that. Falcao is still only 28 and is the best pure CF in world football. He is a better CF than Rooney or RVP. When the worlds best CF becomes available and you have the chance to sign him you have to take it. He's apparently looked very sharp in the games he's played since he returned from injury.
But he did have many good years with Arsenal.
------
Oh, I see what you mean
Let's make RVP captain at United because he's had some good seasons at arsenal (mostly injured) instead if making Rooney captain who has had some good seasons at errrrm United, mostly uninjured.

For me rvp not Rooney would be in the team I think would be the best but Rooney will play.
Unless we stay at 3-52 which we are clearly no good at it it means Rooney out of position which effects the balance.
I think it's because RVP is more confident and articulate in interviews than Rooney. Rooney isn't the first or last cliched footballer to be a captain nor will he be the last.
I understand your qualms with the apparent lack of captaincy material with Rooney, however, I don't think the qualities you've listed for a captain are prevalent in anyone in the squad.
So on that basis, one of the general rules for choosing a captain comes into play. And Rooney is at the head of the cue, for both England and United.
I also think the captain's role is massively overrated. People want cliched captains that don't really exist. Though funnily enough, Rooney is the cliched captain in some respects, especially the English attitude towards it.
It's why I don't get why so many people get their knickers in a twist. Look around club teams and national teams and look who is captain. So many different types of characters and players, I don't get the big fuss.
Look at Real Madrid and Barca. Their captains aren't really the leaders in the team. Their star men Messi and Ronaldo are. The two don't need to be mutually exclusive.
People would moan a lot loss if they accepted the captaincy role is not the be all and end all. People's main problem with a player getting the captaincy is when it's a player they don't actually want in the team.
This is the case with many for Rooney. Don't dress it up. Would rather people just say that's why they don't want him to be captain rather than trying twist things to make out like it's actually the player not being up to the role of captain.
"LVG Saudi his attitude has been top drawer. It's also well known now he's a leader in the dressing room and even young players at the World Cup, like sterling, were saying how much advise Rooney gives out"
I dont doubt this at all. Not one bit. But I do doubt if his performances and attitude on the field are those of a captain capable of leading a team. And i doubt that based on what we see week in, week out at the moment.
Of course, perhaps my own opinion of what a captain should excel in itself is skewed, in which case this article can be disregarded even more then it already has.
Anyway. This article, and my subsequent thoughts, just aint no good. I get it. Let's just move on to the next.

Just because you don't think he's been as brilliant as he could have been is moot when it comes to this article
He's on his way to breaking uniteds all time goal scoring record having given united 15 years service
What more do you want?
Rvp's been here 2 seasons and sulked for one if them and you think he should be Manchester United club captain?
Artur A Coimbra #Zico10
If he's showing signs of his Porto/Atletico days since his return from injury then that'll be brilliant, I've hear differently but like I said I've no idea how true that was?
Most are still basing their views on Falcao pre summer 2013, which many refuse to do with RVP. I know there's different circumstances and it isn't that simple but there is still that tiny bit of concern over Facao about how well he will be after such a big injury, hopefully these fears are rubbish.
What's it take to please some of you? We now have the most potent attack of anyone in England, and on par with Real/Barca. Don't count on Rooney for intellectual quotes, he's from lower-class Scouse stock, FFS, he let's his playing do his talking. RVP, on the other hand, is obviously a more literate person, his comments about fighting for a spot, and about young Wilson, are class...Phackt!
