Koscielny isn't world class, but he is definitely one of the best defenders in the league, in my opinion. As AFL said tho, there aren't a high standard of centre backs in our league anymore. He hasn't had a great start to the season but that shouldn't mean he's 'w ank' or 'garbage' or any other adjectives to describe him because it is clearly hyperbole which won't be taken seriously. Everyone seems to be hating on him because its the cool thing to do.

As for the poster who claimed O'Shea, Brown, Cahill etc are better than Koscielny, I'd suggest you watch more football or follow a different sport.

The question that anyone should be asking was where was Gibbs? He was too far forward, which left Koscielny with a ridiculous amount of ground to defend
------------------------------------
That was obvious, but any decent CB would cover that. Instead Koscielny wandered over to the right side of the pitch leaving absolutely nobody on his side. It looks even worse in the replays
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah. He moved to the left alongside Immobile, as I said he could have forced him a bit wider, but he had it covered until the lucky bounce of the shin.

Koscielny struggles to get in his national side. That's all you need to know.

So does Tevez. Suppose that makes him crap you tool?

Apart from perhaps Lovren (which even then I'm not sure about) and Kompany, I wouldn't swap him for any other defender in the Prem. I genuinely don't think anyone would do a better job.

Darren may have been implicit about Wenger getting the blame for everything rather than our players, but he does deserve criticism for 90% of the things wrong with our team which is made to look worse than it is with his tactical rigidity and the system we play. Mertesacker is a very good defender but he doesn't suit a high line, so Koscielny does actually have a lot more responsibility than he should. Until we get a more mobile and quicker defender to partner Koscielny, I think our defence will always look worse than it is.

The only way Mertesacker fits in is with us playing a deeper defensive line but then it means our midfield and attack have more ground to cover and considering our central midfield is slow enough as it is, it just won't bwork.

Until we get a proper defensive midfielder or perhaps two (one for cover), defensively we will continue to look shaky.

Imo we need to get a top young centre back (Nastasic would have been perfect) to replace Mert and get a better left back. I think both Debuchy and Gibbs are pretty average tbh.

Yes when he was with us and his first season at United I thought he was the best striker in the world but it looks like injury/old age has caught up with him. That's why I'm reluctant to put Falcao in my list, when we were linked with him, I was one of the few Arsenal fans that didn't want him because I felt he is too big a gamble considering his age/injury history.

I'm sure it will turn into an argument about Ozil being shiiit as well.

Koscielny is rubbish. But Cahill is good? Oh dear. The guy's bang average. And he gets skinned on a regular basis. No one tends to pick up on it as Chelsea normally go on to win the game.

posted on 19/9/14

Cahill and Koscielny are on the same level. Average centre backs,

To put Koscielny's name in the same sentence with Terry and Kompany is a complete joke.

Jog on. What a load of crâp. Firstly the guy is 28 secondly you would have him in a heartbeat

Nah Bats did actually say that.

I can sort of understand his reluctance as well. I think Falcao will be ok after his knee anyway, I know he did the same earlier in his career and recovered.

But from Arsenal's perspective I can see where he's coming from in terms of risk value in terms of age and injuries in conjunction with price.

Also bare in mind that there will be a lot more reliance on him to play and perform every game for them compared to us. By virtue of having Sanogo as backup it could force them to overplay him and cause him to get injured again (something that has happened at Arsenal in the past).

We are in a better position to take the risk (if you want to call it that) on him as he can be eased in and have his fitness managed better due to the options we have in attack. So it lessens the chances of him getting injured from being overplayed.

Even if he goes on to have a stormer for us this season it's still a valid concern for Arsenal signing Falcao on that basis, in my opinion.

So how's Koscielny been doing recently?

Never mind the quality, feel the depth

Striker James Wilson became the 30th player to represent Manchester United in the Premier League this season when he came on for Radamel Falcao in the 73rd minute.

United have used more players in only two previous Premier League seasons. In 2011-12 they used 31 and three seasons previously they deployed 33 players.
............
Man utd trying to break there own record. Forget best 5 players Man utd are looking to choose from over 30 players although quite a few have now gone.
