Kompany is one of the best centre backs in the league but is vastly overrated. He’s not a clever defender and lacks the anticipation of the very best, he’s also not particularly good on the ball, what he is is a brilliant athlete, his physique and reaction speed gets him out of trouble, you’ll often see him reacting to situations and getting important tackles in which makes him an eye catching player. Carvalho is a good example of a clever defender without the physique, he’d anticipate much better so wasn’t as eye catching but a superior defender to Kompany imo.

I don’t want to do Kompany a disservice, he is very good but many fans who see the big crunching tackles and last ditch efforts and don’t look beyond the PL will have you believe he’s the best centre back in the world which is wide of the mark.

I haven't notice another CB consistantly lose out on as many headers, and we've got some pretty poor ones ourselves. How can you be a top class CB if you need a 6'6" guy next to you just to make up for your deficiencies?

And Dubbed, I'm proclaiming Rooney top class because he is, and has proved it over the past 10 seasons. There's no way our all time leading goalscorer(most likely) wont be a top class player. I only put down players like Koscielny that are overrated in the first place. You wont see me say a bad word about the likes of Sterling, Silva, Aguero, Kompany, Matic, Fabregas, or Costa

Why not just say "I know you are, but what am I?" While you're at it.

As for Koscielny, anyone that can see beyond a few famous co.ck-ups would appreciate his class. He's not the physical beast that Kompany, or an organizer with great positional awareness that Terry has but his anticipation in the quick tackle and early interception is the best in the league. He's really quick and nimble and brings it out smoothly. He needs a better, quicker sweeper behind him though.

Starnge list really as Anfield nights are famous as is their support, Utd have arguably the best away fans in the league, Stoke have a great and indeed very loud support and Arsenal are regarded as the Library with a bunch of unknowlegable fans who get mugged off for £2k every season.

But I'm sure you're right.

Koscielny is not the best. Nope. Kompany is living off his form of the first season with City. But he is still the best.

You're exaggerating. It's not the strongest part of Koscielny's game but it's not a weakness at all. Statistically, Kos wins more aerial challenges than most defenders - even the often flat-footed Mertesacker.

What do you Arsenal fans think about the headers he gave up against Palace and Leicester? Or how inept he looked against Dortmund the other night?

I think his speed, quality on the ball, and exuberance in the tackle make him a good defender to watch, and that's why most Arsenal fans rate him. But when you look at his positioning, marking, and arial ability, he's nothing special

Rooney is good but not that good. Make a lot of mistakes. Not a striker you can bank on to put away chances. Doesnt have the trickery to play as a No.10 neither. Poor position play all round.I am also noticing poor 1st touch recently (watching the entire games - not MOTD)

If he was as good as he's made out to be he would have had a fair better record. Started really well but failed to live up to it.

At the level of his hype he should be a 30 goals a season player. 10 yrs at the club not even up to 20 goals per season which is bench mark for a "good" striker.

Instead I hear lots of excuses, "oh, a center forward, but not quite, rather 2nd striker, but plays in a hole, should have license to roam, he can play upfront on his own, no a 10, playmaker, not out-and-out striker".... please

Verdict: He's good but not that good.
