I've read the article in the independent.

What they haven't said, is what led this kid down this path - the guy is 21 years old

They need to understand what happened and how it happened, to prevent it happening again.

Like someone already said there are a lot of people that went to fight in places like Bosnia, Libya, Israel and latterly Syria.

This guy came back, has announced he was there and wants to integrate back into society - just to reiterate he is 21 years old.

He would be more use to the authorities here, rather than sent away.

Im pretty sure he had no idea what he was getting himself into.

He didn't think going abroad to join a terrorist group and kill people was a big deal?

Maybe he was full of bravado as kids are.. he's 21.

He's run of for some sort of idealogical adventure. He has to have some penance to pay of course, but to limit him coming "home" is not the way forward.

He has to be engaged to find out how he became radicalised and the pathways used.

Some people are just plain stupid.

I bet no-one has gone to fight if they do not follow Islam though.

Wouldn't class him as a "bloke" he's 21, and was probably a lot younger when some cowards (those that don't do anything they "preach" got their claws into him.

Tony Blair, who lied to take the UK into a war - of which a lasting effect has been the rise of ISIS and has far blood on his hands of hundreds of thousands - including British soldiers - costs the tax payer a lot more.

He has two armed officers guarding his residence 24/7 in Bayswater.

His pension of course would run into hundreds of thousands too.

The term 'western privileges' is lets say a little way off being politically correct.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How so? I'd say freedom of speech, and freedom of expression, demonstration etc could be classed as a Western privaleges. Try some of these things in Syria right now, and see what happens....
==========
You can demonstrate in Africa, South America and pretty much nearly everywhere in the world. How can demonstrating be a western privilege? I get your point Term though but when you speak of Western you imply that such privileges are not available elsewhere.....?
