What has the person who set a fire in the Croydon building and that bloke shot seven times in the back by a police officer got to do with each other?
Manc python you're embarrassing yourself. I was a nurse and I've seen all manner of injuries. I'd take an educated guess that it nigh on impossible to crush your own voice box and sever your own spinal chord without hanging.
The scary truth that so many people don't want to admit/accept is that in any society there is an undercurrent that is bubbling away and it only takes a few things to set it off.
We may think we're a million miles away from rioting like the people in the US but change a few things in our lives and we'd be just as angry.
Rob
But its fine if we just feed them iPads and X Factor. Then we can do what the f-ck we like to people and they won't care.
No Dunc but you're focussing purely on the consequences of the injustices and not willing to understand why these actions are taking place.
That old saying about 'bread and circuses' rings true.

i fully understand why the actions are taking place, but for me its not the right way to respond.
and before you ask, i dont know what is the right way, but putting hundreds of peoples lives at risk to vent your anger at the death of one person isnt the right way to go about things.
What came first:
Systemic racism, disproportionate numbers of black people being stopped/killed by police etc?
or
Riots, violence against police etc?
Surely, logic dictates that you treat the cause of the problem (racism within the police force and wider society), and the symptoms will be greatly reduced?
If you genuinely believe that black people were violent and caused all of this first then you seriously need to read a history book.
Some people on this board need to drop the right-wing 'our system is working for us, shoot anyone who disagrees!' ideology, and try to fix the root of the problem. If not, then you can expect the riots to crop up again every now and then when the people come to the end of their tether and are left with no other option to make themselves heard.
When peop ee are desperate the they do crazy sh""it.
Exactly nemanja although I don't advocate the rioting its the cause of it that needs to be addressed. And the cause is fundamental racism within society of the supposed most advanced country in the world.
Dunk
Easier said than done though.
When you don't have a reputation to protect, what harm can rioting do. Black people are already looked down on. Violence from Europeans resulted in them being put into slavery, so there's evidence that it works.
Only things I don't like are the opportunistic looting, and the destruction of small businesses.

They need to hire some Vietnamese shop owners from LA to sort out those idiots.
Thing about opportunistic looting - we live in a materialistic world where advertising is king and we're all brainwashed into thinking we're nothing without the latest things.
And people act surprised when rioting happens and people go for the items they're conditioned to want by the same system that suppresses them.
Juan -
Agreed. I'm not advocating rioting by any stretch, but you can kinda see how it happens when people have no other option. The authorities/media repeatedly ignore/smear any attempts the black community and other activists make to get justice.
If any of you have access to twitter, read a man called Jesse Williams' timeline. Sums up everything perfectly.
But it's a form of control, make people think that what you need to improve your life are material possessions. So you end up with a society who have no real desires other than to buy iPads.
We need Rowdy Roddy Piper so start giving out some shades so people can see what's happening.
Desperate people don't often commit the most rational of acts. People focussing on the rioters as opposed to the cause of their desperation just don't see or understand the bigger picture.

Touché. Point still stands though.
Although interestingly in Tottenham Dixons was ransacked while next door Waterstones went completely untouched.
