I'm afraid the omission of ESB has destroyed the credibility of any future List.

As well as hating Yoda, the score and sound effects out of TESB cover up a lot of deficiencies.
I am looking at it again though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The score is exceptional but what about the visual and practical effects, the story and script, the character development, the plot twist and the stakes and weight.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
visual and practical effects > in parts excellent for the time, in parts a bit lame. Overall impressive. The music gets louder for the lamer parts.
the story > very basic
script > terrible
the character development > almost non existent on any serious level
the plot twist > ?
the stakes and weight > don't know what this means
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The story isn't complex but it's compelling. It draws you in and keeps you engaged.
The script is terrific. Yoda: Ah. A great warrior. Wars not make one great.
Character development. Are you suggesting that characters like Luke,Han,Leia and Vader remained the same by the end of Empire or were they far more substantive than at the end of New Hope? I think the latter, certainly with Vader and Luke.
posted 1 week, 4 days ago
Plot twist- Vader being Luke's father.
Stakes and weight equate to danger and suspense. Throughout the movie, it feels like the heroes are in genuine peril. When Han is being chased by Vader or when he's being put into carbonite, those were moments that left thinking what comes next. The whole Luke vs Vader battle had a considerable amount of tension and weight.

5 films to go...

it's such a lame decade.
at least the 80s had Blade Runner.
posted 1 week, 3 days ago
Dunno if it's been covered here. Currently watching Monsters (subtitle "The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" or something like that).
Not generally big on the true crime genre, but enjoying this one it so far. About 3 episodes left to go.

Think you got a bit lazy in that 80s list. It was a pretty good time for indie cinema.

If you think the 90s are lame and none of Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Fargo or The Big Lebowski make your top 20, then I think you'll have to be the first person I ever filter on ja606. Or the entire internet for that matter.

I'll give Miller's Crossing another watch after I've finished The Matrix.
And will give Lebowski another quick check.

must say I'm enjoying the Lebowskis. Thanks. Not seen it for a long time.
