Roman history deserves a better project than Gladiator 2 tbf
Where the feck is my Hannibal Barca epic
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I saw that and nearly slapped my forehead
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn’t even realise it was getting a sequel, why?
Yeah, there’s plenty to choose from. Hannibal in particular would be brilliant given they still study his tactics these days, plus it would make a great tale.
Tbh I was hoping for more modest budget films. Less cgi. Maybe even a return to more practical fx but I doubt that would be cheaper.
Well you say feasible but Rome got told no season 3 when they were writing season 2
Then they went and made 8 seasons of Game of fecking Thrones

"... okay but hear me out... what if he DIDN'T die *smug face*"
Obviously tricky waters to discuss on here or anywhere on the internet
But given that Hannibal was from North Africa and most likely of semitic looking descent he fits the idea of a POC smashing ancient white people's sh't up
I could sell this to Hollywood on their current terms easy

I maintain the first four seasons of GoT are excellent, as badly as it ended.
GoT is IP.
Rome was not, and the reason it stopped was viewer ratings sadly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In streaming services do we even know viewer numbers?

Depends on what you mean by practical. It is cheaper to crash a plane than to digitise it, if Christopher Nolan is to be believed, but it is cheaper to CGI a landscape with a city in it than build ome
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ya know what, given how much of a horror nut i am, is probable in only looking at it from this perspective. I miss the weight of actual physical fx on screen. Not the floaty, green screen, actors eyes looking in the wrong place, pretending to following nothing moving fx we see all the time now.

What is your budget?
If by Hollywood you mean cinema, you probably need at least $150m plus $100m marketing, and you have no star names.
Theatres get about 40 percent of the gross of the ticket sales.
So you need to convince studios you can make, roughly, $430m?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats almost exactly what Gladiator made worldwide
Did you do that on purpose
I dont cinemas will be making anything near that now.

I read somewhere that the Chinese market is where the revenue is these days and they love cgi.
Hollywood wont look to make say westerns regardless of script or how good the movie would be simply because no cgi means no money in china on opening weekend
Put in chi and a chit script etc and you make money
