If you're talking adventures then Zork (on a TRS-80) was my favourite. Although I enjoyed most of the Level 9, Adventure International (Scott Adams) and the Infocom games of the time.
All you whippersnappers who had computers in school.
I was 20 when the Spectrum came out but I had already taught myself programming on the aforementioned TRS-80 2 years earlier.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you have Android Nim? Without my dad buying a TRS-80 I probably wouldn't have my software job today Schools didn't have computers (secondary school did when I was 4th year - BBCs, which we already had at home by then too), gave me a head start.
They've also announced a new version of Star Wars Battlefront, the originals were fantastic (to my memory, anyway)
Streetracer, Rayman, Worms, Aerial Assault and I think Street Fighter - The Movie were my first games on the playstation 1
Before that I'd played a game called Sam & Max hit the road on the PC.
I strongly encourage anyone who hasn't heard of it/played it, to give it a go. It's a sort of puzzle game were you play as a 1940's American detective dog and his sidekick insane rabbit - Sam and Max - on a journey across the state to catch a criminal.
Not only is it loaded with jokes for the parents helping their kids that are hilarious (a very nice discovery during my first replay in almost 20 years), but it is ruthlessly, unforgivingly difficult. I never finished it as a kid, and without the internet, doubt I'd have finished it as an adult.
One of the most enjoyable games I ever played when I was young, and without doubt the best replay I've EVER had. Brilliant and terrible and hilarious.
Top game

Same as watching old kids tv shows with the little ones, they're all full of adult jokes. Things like Rugrats and others just full of em.
Forgot all about Worms!!!!
Top, TOP game!!!!
Unfortunately, I never had any games. A computer was a tool back in them days as far as my dad was concerned (he bought the TRS-80). When I started writing (and then playing the games i'd written) he did the old parent "stop playing games and get a real job" thing and sold it

You can get one of the original few on any smartphone. You'll never be bored in the office again. I know I'm not.
Get on the works wifi and play against people who are doing exactly as bored at work as you are
That was a reply to Henry's cat. Sometimes I get distracted and take too long posting my reply, there are loads between the one I'm replying to and mine

My (step) dad once sold my PlayStation, for beer.

I'm not just talking like, 10 batteries. I'm talking like 4 batteries a week, for about a year.
So "NO" to an Amiga emulator for Android? Just wanna play sensi again
or any emulator that'll play the damn game. Am not fussy.
Grounded for a month with no Playstation or Game Boy because everything suddenly clicked in to place for them
-------------------
You got grounded for that?
I got grounded once, and still just went out.
My parents found that using a belt works better.

To be fair, I thought everyone did that? Where else is a kid gonna get batteries from? The trick was to rotate where you stole them from, so your parents blamed the batteries. You had to "run out" every month or so, but getting them to buy you a pack lasted ages if you included the pack pairs you'd need in the rotation.
They bought me a set of 8 rechargeable batteries for Christmas that year That Game Boy went everywhere with me. I even had one of those things you put on top of it with a magnifying glass and a light so I could play it at night in the car.
