The Universe is a big place, so big we can't really comprehend the distances involved. It is a huge leap to suggest there is not life elsewhere purely because we haven't found it yet.

An interesting school of thought and one I subscribe too as well

I think that the chances of life not existing anywhere else in the universe are practically nil. Bacteria, simple algae, etc. has to be at least present on some rock somewhere IMO.

I think there is fully developed life like us. Like I said, the parameters for our existence appear to be how you would set up samples in a lab to study

Question to the religious folk on here. What if it turned out aliens 'invented' human beings as some sort of experiment. Seems more plausible than some sort of all seeing deity.

How would you feel then? Would you feel less 'special' in the scheme of things?

don't disagree MUDD but bacteria/algae is an easier sell to a doubter

depends how hot they are

If they're like the green chicks in Star Trek I'd be well pleased

Who’s more irrational? The guy who believes in a God he can’t see or the guys who’s offended by a God he doesn’t believe in?

I don't think the idea of a god offends anyone. People are more offended that some people believe in a god so much that they'd kill in his name. That is bizarre.

Don't understand why people think this type of a question is clever.

What do you think alien means? By definition a deity is alien ie not of this world etc

Religion is about a deity/alien that created us as an experiment or test

Why would religious people feel less special?

Darwin's "survival of the fittest" has been responsible for most of the killing since the 1900s

Well, a lot of religious people believe they were created by a God who loves them and will welcome them into a lovely afterlife where they'll live for eternity.

If human beings were created by some type of alien much like human beings create things in labs now there may be no afterlife and rather than the special feeling of being loved by some creator perhaps you were just a science experiment.

What?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What's hard to understand?

Do you think the arms race, the manipulation and oppression of people in different parts of the world , the killings the wars, enforcing democracy etc were about religion or show we are stronger/ better than you?

Why? After all aliens doing an experiment is plausible in your head so reward and punishment as a men his of obedience makes perfect sense

The notion of hell in a persons mind is what makes it exist.

-----------------------------------------

That's why many atheists have issues with religious folk. That they'd invent the concept of hell or an angry god who'd send people there if people weren't obedient.

Ridiculous.

Regarding the aliens thing, it's not something I believe in. Just curious to see what people would think if they found out there really was no meaning to life or some father figure watching over them.

if aliens turned up, claiming that they made humans would be a great tactic. They'd be seen as gods effectively and would have an easier time controlling the masses. Might even convince them to build pyramids or something

Maybe that's what happened.

You don't half go on about a God you don't believe exists
