Was ADM our biggest flop ever?

Probably the leagues biggest flop

Easily ahead of Andy Caroll or Torres at Chelsea

ADM did give up imo. However he still did enough to not be the biggest flop. Price tag, wages and everything else thrown in I still think he was no worse than Falcao last year. He was another player who went through the motions but never showed anything positive.

The full back who stole a fortune off Chelsea 10 or 15 years back is another candidate. Signed off Barca. Carroll is definitely up there and statistically was worse than ADM and was so for a longer period of time.

No.

He has been a big flop which is a shame as it is always good to see top player in the PL.

Should the manager take some of the blame though? Don't get me wrong but LVG doesn't come across like someone who could sit down and motivate a player.

TBH after only one season I don't think you could really make that claim, especially considering he got fairly impressive stats in that season.

Anderson, Hargreaves and a lot of others are well ahead of ADM in our list of flops.

You really can't class Hargreaves ahead of ADM as a flop as he eats excellent in his first season with us and clicked straight away. Injuries are no reason to call someone a flop.

ADM came with a huge amount of momentum after winning the cl and we paid an insane amount. He was benched for a big amount of the season even though he was fit and we'll be selling him after just 11 months.

Rob how can you ask such a daft question.

He was our best player in the first half of the season then he got hit by injury and struggled. Clearly he needed time to adapt to the physicality of the league and lvg playing him all over the gaff did not help. He had a decent season.

He had a decent season? Really? Sorry mate but that's a ridiculous thing to say. We only started moving forward as as team once he was benched.

........................................

Sure they are.

Even without that for such an impressive first season stats wise there would be a big list of United flops ahead of him, even just taking into account the PL.

Think you are letting your personal bias against ADM cloud your judgement a bit here Robb.

Desperately wanted the guy to succeed. But I guess either his heart was just never in it, or he's given up after a bad spell.

Either way he needs to go

Look at the stats Robb, that does mean you'll have to ignore your personal bias as well. Saying he didn't have a decent season is the ridiculous statement.

Generally agree Robb. Didn't do enough over the season, looked disinterested. Expected way more and he cost a fortune too. Carroll is a limited player so wouldn't even compare him. Torres had done it and then flopped badly. SO yes he is up there as one of our biggest flops.
Hargreaves was class but he arrived injured . Bayern knew all about his tendonitis in his knee. It just got progressively worse and I think in both knees at the end. Really think he would have been a legend if he had stayed fit.

(we would have beaten Villa and Reading)

Just like you beat MK Dons?

In fairness to Carroll and Torres as well, they at least stuck it out for a while to try and turn things around.

This guy has fùcked off at the first sign of things getting a bit bumpy. No heart for a fight.

He was brilliant for 8 games and horrendously bad after that.

Purely on price tag and fact he looks to he off after less than 12 months, he has to be up there I guess.

So.... Anderson? Valencia? Nani? Shaw? Smith? Berbatov? Kagawa?

All bigger flops than ADM for me and that's just from the last few years (admittedly Smith is going back a while )

I'd say Shaw has only had a season so you can't really judge yet but in that he shares a similarity with the player we are discussing.

For months he was telling the Argentina media he will stay and prove himself but the minute PSG sniff around he's off. What a bottling bag of shít he really is.

He didn't have a decent season. That's a fact. Only the deluded will look at what he contributed over the whole season and think it was decent.

£60 million for a few assists. Was benched for Young for 3 months even though he was fit. Sent off in one of the biggest games of the season for stupidity.

The guy didn't have a decent season. That is delusion at its finest.

He's a casualty of having to rebuild quickly.

Would you be surprised if any of Fell/Mata/Rojo/Blind/Herrera were sold in the next 18 months?

Valencia may not be everyones cup of team but there's no way he's a bigger flop than ADM. He had a good couple of seasons for us and helped us make the cl final in 2011
