Nice thread there Tez,obviously you've taken a bit of time and research or have you copied and pasted form the fans guide??
Attending this one myself, looking forward to it,should have a decent following over there. If were honest we should be winning this one as Oldham are struggling a bit.Hope Lee Clark has told Oldham that Nathan Clarke can't play.Don't want him scoring the winner or owt daft like that.
3-1 Novak 2 and Lee.
cheers artez...
yeah the factual infor like the directions and where to eat etc are direct from the oldham official site.
So Terriers lets get down and dirty with the 'nitty gritty'
^^^^ thats where my 'personal' touch starts!
Im also at the game too. but im going on the terrier travel coaches for this one as getting there is rubbish and i cant be bothered with the hassle of driving and trying to park up
I'm going on the train to Manchester and then the bus form Manchester. The rail/tram line to Oldham for Manchester is still closed,so the bus it is!!!
just seen on the bbc transfer deadline day thingy that the latics have signed Shefki kuqi
Yes, and Coventry have signed Cody Mcdonald on a 3 year deal.
I don't think N athan is allowed to play - not Elsie's rules but football league rules....
great thread Tez.
Another Yorks-Lancs derby game, that's 3 already in 6 league matches. Having drawn the other 2 when Bury and Rochdale have raised their games against us let's hope it's 3rd time lucky for the terriers.
A win for Town would provide the confidence going into the next 3 more difficult games, against Tranmere, Sheff Utd and MKD..a defeat is unthinkable but possible if we don't play to a high standard.
Thing with Oldham is that they are fairly erratic but when they get a head of steam up can be very tricky. It's up to town to assert themselves and dominate the proceedings if they hope to win this one. Also let's hope our defence aren't caught ball watching again as we seem to get punished every time that happens.
The inclusion of Kay will tighten things up a bit at the back, but as usual it will be midfield where the game will be won or lost. If we can play to a high tempo, quick passing game and Alan Lee shows the same desire as last saturdays cameo appearance then we stand a chance.
It could go either way this one but I predict 2-1 to the Terriers (Kay, Lee).
Good thread tez, shame I'm on call and can't go!
Rest of the family will be there though.
Sorry but I'm going for a 2-1 defeat!
hydy hi.
what makes you go for a defeat when its been so long since we had one? im more thinking will we ever lose a league fixture i just couldnt imagine it nor remember what it feels like. i have to regularly ask my leeds and wednesday supporting friends
Tez, just think we're "due one" that's all,and this unbeaten can go down in history as the most boring run ever.
Morning hydy hi !! if only they knew !!
Given LC's pre-season target of 2 points per game, a win at Oldham would put us back on target after an unconvincing start.
It may aslo enable us to put a tentative foot into the play off positions for the first time, which would perhaps encourage a few more Town fans to come down for the Tranmere game.
Nice thread Tez.
This will be a tough game, as it always tends to be at Oldham! Lets hope we dont have a repeat of last year, as although it was only 1-0 to Oldham, we were truly dreadful! Remember Deano's comments?!!!
Up front, its nailed on that Lee and Novak will start. Possible place on the bench for Cads just in case?
Midfield is a tricky one to predict. If Johnson's fit, then go with him and Gobern. If we want ultimate solidity in the centre then go for Johnson and Robinson. McDermott and Wardy out wide, with Roberts coming on if things arent going our way!
At the back, Naysmith back in for Woods. Who do we go for at CB? Clarke if fit has to come back in for me and i would imagine that he will stick with Kay alongside him. I would like to see Clarke and Cooper, but that doesnt look close to happening!
2-1 Town, Lee and Novak with the goals!
It'll be 4-5-1, I reckon
Bennett
Defence- Hunt, Kay, McCombe, Naysmith.
Midfield - Gobern, Miller, Ward, Robinson and McDermott
Up front - Novak
On the bench -. Arfield, Roberts, Johnson, Colgan and Lee.
jacko..
im not sure you might be right. i feel playing 4-5-1 may play into the oldham hands where as 442 they may step back a little in hoping not to get caught at the back allowing us to attack them far more and with more weight. and 442 has produced the results in the last few games. we need to be gelling in a positive formationvin my opinion.
i think its going to be 4-4-2 as well
Bennet
Hunt Kay McCombe Naysmith
Ward Robinson Miller McDermott
Lee Novak
Colgan Cooper Johnson Roberts Arfield
Not really sure everyone is calling for the revertion to 4-5-1?Lee is more than capable to partner Novak,Novak will have to switch roles from holder upper of the ball and stop his headless chicken routine to support Lee by collecting the knock downs. When I say headless chicken routine its not a criticism, its what he does, but he's quite good at it!!!
To be honest Oldham should be despatched no problem,I heard they signed Kuqi, but he won't save them.
Tez, MNT...2 things make me think he'll revert to 4-5-1.
We only have 2 strikers available for this match, so if he plays them both from the start he has no options left .
He might have played 4-4-2 at Northampton, but this is the league, and I think LC's nature is still to flood the midfield in away games, particularly as he wasn't happy with the performance at N'mpton.
I realise Ward and Roberts could pair up front if needed, but they are neither of them strikers. With Rhodes away, we seem a bit light up front, and heaven forbid if one gets crocked. In fact if 2 get crocked we have a crisis on our hands. We'd have Cadamarteri having to play 90 minutes...
Jacko
hes only been playing one striker on the bench anyway and we still have Cads who can sit on the bench. he can always start with 4-4-2 and if it doesnt work he can go the 4-5-1 , we have plenty of midfielders he can call on.
i think he has realized that with the wide options we have now ( wingers that WILL cross and fullbacks that CAN cross) we are far more dangerous with 2 strikers on the field
oh and yes that was a rather thinly veiled dig at Pilkington and Peltier
I hope you are both right, I'd love Town to play 4-4-2 or even 4-3-3 in every match regardless who we play. We've all said before we should play our own game so the lads can settle into one style of play and let the opposition worry about us.
There's little point having all this money and buying supposedly the best squad in the league but then shackling them in a defensive and negative game plan.
We can hope, and I hope I am wrong in my prediction, time will tell.
Great article Tez
Hope Town show up in this game, because last season was a total no show at Boundary Park. Was that the game where Sir Dean publicly slated his players after?
Yes Inter.
Dean went Ballistic after last years game, culminating in the sacking of Blackie.
Dean has been very quiet this season. Must have learned his lesson from last year when he raised the hype end expectancy only to fail to deliver again. The throwing away of the 'I believe' t-shirts would have annoyed him too i expect.
Maybe he's just leaving LC to get on with it and concentrating on commercial matters, the shares, canalside and perhaps working out how many more millions he's prepared to invest in trying to get us out of this league.
