As OT holds 20,000+ more than the Eitihad, it would be more realistic to talk about percentages then.
.................................

If people chose whether to go to a stadium or not based on how full it is then that would work...

They don't though, pure numbers is the only real way to spin that insult around on United (whilst probably also requiring United fans at the time to be claiming the City is theirs)

If you want to insult based purely on number of empty seats than that is fine but its a different insult to the one the song refers to.

Ok then, let's see what you get compared to the last time we played Kiev.

Over to you.

I'm more interested in your last European game, that's the subject of the article.

Ah so you're not interested in actual like for like comparisons, just comparing games that suit your argument?

posted on 29/2/16

We haven't had a 'must win' European game yet this season so it is hard to make comparisons.

If a third of the stadium is empty when we play Kiev (even though a 0-0 draw would be enough) then you may have a point.

We have got a previous City game in exactly the same competition against exactly the same team though, almost perfect!

We also looked at City's last must win Europa league game (38,021 stat fans).

A much better comparison, no?

The biggest club in the world with supposedly the biggest fan base should be full for a European game.

Or do you cling to your hypocritical view that only we should be mocked for it.

I explained the song above, nothing you haven't read before but there's always a chance something might sink in eventually....

You claim to have 643m fans. If we claimed to have half that amount I'd be disappointed if we didn't sell out every cup game.

Saf you are the one that can't comprehend that you mocking us for empty seats is just plain stupid.

Then again I think you are just that, and your man united arrogance just can't let you see that for yourself.

The City fans claiming the city is theirs, which is the origin for the song is much more silly, the United one is at least factual.

At least I am guessing the point of the song has actually sunk in now, what has it been 2-3 years I've been trying to explain it. We should celebrate.

Using a definition of a fan of Manchester United which would include yourself.

Are you a Manchester United fan binky?

Just not on a Thursday

Stumped me there, does that mean you're actually a City fan and we're living in a parallel universe?

Using the definition they used to define a fan yes I am, using their definition of fan most of us are fans of quite a few premier league clubs.

Using their definition of fan, we do have that many fans, it's just not an accurate description of the word fan from a footballs fan pov. From a business perspective it makes a bit more sense, which is what the figure was being used for.

Funny how things always make more sense in context...

God this thread is depressing.

As someone who has gone to both OT and the Etihad several times every season for the past few years, I can talk from personal experience that the whole thing is a pile of rubbish.

Both suffer empty seats and both for mainly the same reason - ST holders that don't turn up and don't sell their tickets on. The amount in each ground is entirely comparable, the perception of ours is slightly influenced by the location of the family stand. Put that up in level 3 and suddenly no-one can see it...

For both teams, I or people I know have struggled to get tickets despite there clearly being some seats that haven't been resold on. Ideally, any stadium should have some empty seats as if not, then revenue isn't being maximised.

In terms of the "city is yours" song, that only makes sense if it is known where everyone in the stadium is coming from. I have been at OT and heard a cockney signing it, which was very difficult not to say something to them!

Both the empty seats and the city is yours/ours songs are banter that are both moronic in real world context essentially. Neither are in any way factual.

posted on 29/2/16

Both are stupid but City fans claiming the City is theirs and 20,000 empty seats both actually happened, whilst the City being Cities is not factual.

Albeit there's an argument to be made regarding what level their stadium should be full to even if the City was theirs it is at least based on facts rather than a blatant falsehood.

Both are stupid and pointless but I'm sure I'll have to explain the meaning of the song again sometime soon when Loz gets excited that Old Trafford only has 15,000 more people in it one weekend than the Etihad.

posted on 29/2/16

None of it is factual as none of it makes sense. Its mindless inane football "bantz". I wouldn't bother even trying to argue any position to be honest because any argument is flawed, the city is yours/ours or the empty seats.

"They" meaning Manchester United who commissoned the survey?

posted on 29/2/16

They as in whoever made the decision to define fan that way.

posted on 29/2/16

It's normal for an organisation to set parameters ehen they commission a survey.

posted on 29/2/16

That wasn't an attempt to say it wasn't United, we can call it a full on Manchester United decision if you want (and because I'm assuming it'll help you get to whatever point you are making quicker)

posted on 29/2/16

It is a tad confusing. You're all quck enough to quote United's offical figures when it comes to attendances yet there seems to be some dispute about United's fan base when it comes to official figures released by the club.

...and apparently I'm a rag now.

Saf you want to talk about stupid songs ok

Your mob sing you are the pride of all Europe.

Liverpool have more European cups than you, so your not the pride of even England in that respect.

That only matters if you are taking song litteraly
