What was the reason United didn't come close to selling out last night?

posted on 26/2/16

In the unlikely event of us getting to the final I think I've fecked my chances of a ticket anyway.

I can only speak for myself, but there's no way I'm paying out more to watch us at the moment. I'm not a masochist. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. Nothing to do with the competition or opposition, just the quality of the football mate. Maybe a lot of people are thinking like that.

A mate of mine that went said there was no-one in the rows around him that usually sit there, it was full of Chinese etc. So feck knows how many card holders actually went.

It does look like it's a struggle to watch at the moment and it won't improve with LVG there.

But I can guarantee 760000 will be there in the next round.

I know it is fun to give Stretty some stress, but I really see his point. If watching sport isn't fun, and it costs a lot of money why do it? I'd rather watch a good game where the team I support lose than the crap LVG is serving up if I was a United supporter, which fortunately I am not. If you just want to watch a team that you know will win, go and watch Celtic. But not in Europe, obviously.

Will the stadium expansion be done by then? Seems a big jump in capacity.

Fair do's.

I should have gone to specsavers.

About 35,000 by all accounts (except the official United one.)

So there were a few empty seats, so what.

I don't know why you bitters obsess about it.

Just read that back and enjoy the irony of that statement.

So there were a few empty seats, so what.

That's like saying the Sahara is a 'stretch of sand'.

There were whole sections closed off, whole fekin sections.

What was the attendance, Boris? In terms of numbers how did it stack up against a typical game at the COMS? Just for the sake of balance.

What was the attendance, Boris?

Fek knows, United always inflate their figures as reveaked by GMP and the Guardian.

I'd say it was half full at best.

posted on 26/2/16

Isn't it fairly straightforward?

According to Worldfootball.net

Manchester city, title chasing European giants:
average attendance 54,001

Manchester United with the most boring manager in their history in a completely toss competition against a team of scandanavian butchers called Midgetland:
58,609

And you're on here taking the pee? The mind boggles.

Well I was at the game and can say with absolute certainty that it was well over half full.

Only the very top tier of the Sir Alex stand was closed/completely empty.

I overheard the guy behind me saying his mate in the ticket office had said they'd sold about 55,000 tickets. That sounds about right to me.

I was pleasantly surprised at the attendance as I'd kept hearing we'd closed an entire stand.

All I've gathered from the last 2 posts is that OT was a third empty for a crucial European game and the Eitihad, on average, is 98% full.

posted on 26/2/16

Welcome to Borisworld.

If there's swathes of blue seats on show it's OK because they sold all the tickets according to the official attendance which is always true.

Whatever the official attendance is at Old Trafford is overstated because they're liars and want to look good. It must be true because the GMP put a man on every turnstile once with clickers (at least I think they did, maybe it was an estimate, Whatever, United are wrong).

You couldn't make it up.

You would no doubt derive as much satisfaction from these findings if Old Trafford held 200,000 people and the Etihad held 200.
