Inter-board posting anf JA Brexit vote

I know how long it takes to negotiate trade deals.

For a start you don't go into trade deals with a hostile attitude towards your negotiating partners. Best trade deals work when BOTH parties get something out of it. So don't let people fool you into thinking that somehow 'power' is more important. That doesn't work with the EU because you are not negotiating against one party but 20+ very different requirements. Thats why countries like Switzerland have a deal with China while the EU is still waiting. They can't even handle negotiating with Canada!

Its immaterial anyway. You don't need trade deals to trade. China had no deals before it joined the WTO. Once they did they grew at a rate the world has never seen.

This shouldn't have even gone to a public vote tbh.

Too many people will be voting to exit for the wrong reasons.

Actually have seen Brexit articles posted that 'taking back control of our borders' will stop illegal immigrants from getting into the country'.

Illegal immigrants, not legal EU migrants or refugees.

As if us exiting the EU is suddenly going to stop them trying to get into the country.

It's madness.

so Norway and Switzerland have none of those things?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, Norway and Switzerland have most of those things.

They also have, necessarily, freedom of movement of labour; i.e. no local control over Eurozone migration.

Their package of ten or so treaties with the EU has a guillotine clause that says if any one of the treaties is broken (for example, they close their borders to Europeans), the rest of the treaties are automatically nullified. And they lose access to the single market.

The problem is lex, do you then sleepwalk into a EU superstate where the average Brit will have very little say? Even more so because we are not a part of the Eurozone.

We'll still trade with Europe as it's in both our best interests. If we leave we'll make compromises on things that mutually benefit us.

Sadly, J99, the average with have very little say whatever the outcome of the vote.

In the words of David Byrne "Same as it ever was, same as it ever was..."

Off the top of my head.

The UK is lagging way behind now on environmental affairs compared to Germany and France.

Funny how we're only 'tied in with the EU' on some matters...

Apart from a short term hit to the economy there's no reason why we can't prosper long term. EU will suffer more from us leaving than we will

Sizzle

You don't even know there are 5 different EU officials with the title President and none of them are elected!

And you are not alone in not knowing who these faceless people most of europe doesn't because they are unelected placemen.

posted on 4/6/16

We're too tied into the EU, yet leaving it will leave us unaffected in the long term if it goes down the shiitter when we leave?

Okay.

posted on 4/6/16

The EUs going down the toilet so thats a reason to stay.

And I'm a conspiracy theorist for telling you what the fundamental purpose of the EU is and which is enshrined in international treaty.

Dooh

I'd argue that cutting our ties with America would do us more good than cutting our ties with Europe.

But that's another argument entirely.

Agreed Lex but we're not in a union with America but still have a 'special relationship'. It can be the same with the EU

FACT

EU undemocratic

FACT

EU is for ever closer political union.

Fair enough if you want that be my guest vote remain.

But that is what a remain vote is, it ain't about being £20 or £30 better or worse off a week, it ain't about how many immigrants work in the NHS.

It is about democracy and sovereignty.

And that is why people should be voting to Leave.
