Hope I don't get told off for cross posting but it seems there are two threads for this so and not sure who looks at what. Apologies if I'm out of order on this
Interesing thread, and others on here. I lurk a lot and don';t post much on football. But on this I've been avoiding all the sloganeering and chest thumping from our elites and doing my own research.
I'm for remaining in. It's not perfect in the EU and there are things I'd like to change for sure, but on balance the Leave campaign doesn't even make sense to me. If they had a wide based policy platform for people to view and vote on then I'd take them more seriously. As it is it does appear to be a lot of slogans and one or two issue politics. If we do leavfe the EU it will be a massive change and preparation and policies have to be made for all kinds of social, political, economic areas of life, not just the couple of issues they seem to concentrate on.
On the other hand I've been doing a bit of research on behind the slogans that the Leave campaigners have been shouting about and seeing what they have actually said and therefore what is what they want to happen to this country in the future.
These are some of them, all about serious things that affect ordinary folk in this country and which make me very worried about their motives and believability.
Dominic Raab (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – as recently as April 2016 advocated privatising the NHS.
Michael Gove (co-convener Vote Leave) – on record in 2009 called for the dismantling of the NHS.
Matthew Elliott (chief executive Vote Leave) – is the founder of the Taxpayers Alliance – which has long argued for the break-up of the NHS and private competition in healthcare. On record for wanting introduction of £20 per GP visit and other charges for hospital stays and missing appointments.
Philip Davies (Better Off Out Campaign) – once blocked plans to reverse private sector involvement in the NHS
Dominic Cummings (campaign director Vote Leave) – once said less privileged children do worse at school due to what he called their “inferior genes”.
Peter Bone (campaign committee member Grassroots Out) – thinks the NHS should be forced to open up to US companies via TTIP trade deal.
Nigel Dodds (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – once campaigned for services to be legally withheld from people for being gay.
Steve Baker (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – in 2013 praised healthcare provision for the working classes in Britain before the NHS.
Douglas Carswell (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – in 2005 called for the “denationalising” and privatisation of healthcare provision in Britain.
Iain Duncan Smith (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – once blamed housing shortages on “pressure” from “the ethnic population”.
Lord Forsyth (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – in 2008, before Osborne and Cameron, was the first senior Tory to call for austerity and cuts in public services in response to the banking crisis.
Boris Johnson (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – once had to apologise for an article in a magazine he edited which claimed “blacks have lower IQs”.Has been sacked twice from jobs for falsifying information and lying, one where he was fired from The Times and from government. Has argued previously that it would be crazy to leave the EU.
Liam Fox (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – has called for “huge restrictions” on abortion, and called for cuts to what he called the “wasteful” NHS.
Chris Grayling (campaign committee member Vote Leave) –
Dan Hannan (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – in 2009 called for the dismantling of the NHS, calling it a “relic”.
Lord Lawson (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – has argued pollution and global warming are good for the environment..
Priti Patel (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – says cutting disabled people’s support by £30 a week is justified.
John Whittingdale (campaign committee member Vote Leave)
Andrea Leadsom (campaign committee member Vote Leave) – thinks the NHS should be forced to open up to US companies via the TTIP trade deal.
Philip Hollobone (campaign committee member Grassroots Out) – also once blocked plans to reverse private sector involvement in the NHS. Also on record said that the NHS should be forced to open up to enable US companies investment in the NHS via TTIP..
George Eustace (Environment minister) – pro Leave supporter. On record as wanting to dismantle environmental protection laws.

These are leading members of the campaign that has just argued that leaving the EU would allow us to spend £100m more per annum on the NHS?

Now Gove has admitted to Peston that although he'd like to reduce net, long-term migration to five figures, it cannot be done by 2020 and he would not commit to any sort of timescale.
Still the Brexiters believe that a vote to leave will see a reduction in migration
And Conservatives ideologues investing in - rather than continuing to deconstruct - the NHS
