Doubt the new arena would help though

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure on that. The BMO Bradley Centre was pretty dated. Bucks have built a new sport science centre across the street from the new arena for the players. State of the art facilities will have some pull for players and may have been a factor in the Bledsoe trade last season.

Bucks are traditionally a small market team that struggle to attract some of the big name free agents. Now they have the superstar, the rising team, the new state of the art facilities etc. they will never have better chance to change perceptions.

Obviously money and the market are big factors, but it would be silly to dismiss the factors that the Bucks have rapidly improved upon.

In winning Bball, defending is equally as important as scoring which makes Kyrie limited. Which is why two-way players are prized!!! MJ was making all NBA defensive teams and the most effective players are two-way players. Curry is unique and the GSW set-up helps but he actually tries to play some D. Klay plays D, KD , Draymond

I like Kyrie and his handles are sick and he is probably most exciting offensive player but dude is a poor defender. It is strictly not just a size issue as CP3- who is three inches shorter than Kyrie is an excellent perimeter defender. Sure , he is a top five point guard in all of the NBA but he is not a top 15 NBA player currently playing .

Kawhii is a top two/three two-way player. Joel Embiid ( if injuries permits) averages 20 plus points per game whilst making NBA defensive teams. Ditto Giannis and Kawhii. These players are threats on both ends of the floor

Celtic system will help mask Kyrie’s lack of defence ofc but he is not as effective as a Kawhii/ Embiid/Giannis

Those are my top five seeds too in the East with Bucks the fourth and Wizards five.

Not disputing the effect of the arena. Just that stars do not in the main want to play in Winsconsin.

Just like stars did not want to play in Cleveland - even though a GOAT contender was local there’s

Predicting the west - now that would be a tough call.

GSW are a guarantee. Maybe Houston at number two .
3-8 is a dogfight.

Though I think Lakers, OKC, Pelicans, Timberwolves and maybe Utah will make top 8.

I see Portland dropping out but won’t be surprised if Houston do too 😏.

Only GSW are a lock !!!

The wizards had pretty serious issues in the locker room last season and now they're adding dwight Howard to that

My personal predictions for playoffs are

1. Boston
2. Toronto
3. 76ers
4. Bucks
5. Pacers
6. Wizards
7. Heat
8. Pistons

1. Warriors
2. Houston
3. OKC
4. Spurs
5. Jazz
6. Lakers
7. Nuggets
8. Timberwolves

3-8 in the west is an absolute cluster fack though, with the mavs and suns saying they want to make the playoffs the kings are the only team tanking

Dunno if I agree with this btw

I know we like to think that defence and offence is 50/50 when it comes to importance but it really isnt the case. Its 80/20 in favour of offence. That's why james harden is one of the best players in the nba and marcus smart probably isn't considered top 50 by most. Its why Karl Anthony Towns (arguably the worst defensive Player in the league) is seen as a top 20 player and jusuf nurkic is only making 12 million a year.

Now of course defence is still important, its a great way to seperate two players who put up similar offensive numbers (Embiid and KAT), but being able to get buckets trumps it.

Id say Kyrie is a top 10 player, he's gonna be the best plauer on a team that could win 60 games, he puts up 24/5/4 on 49% shooting and 40% from three. And you always feel like he holds back a bit to let the other guys get involved and feeling good, until he puts up 20 in the 4th quarter when he knows the team needs it.

Oh yeah , spurs will make playoffs. I always have faith in Pop.

Maybe not 50-50. But more like 60-40 come playoffs. Hence why I said ‘winning basketball ‘One of the highlights of the playoffs was the rockets vs GSW.

As the GSW is currently constructed - even without fit Boogie. ISO-ball and outshooting GSW is not just going to work as evidenced by that series. And which was ultimately Houston’s downfall ( even above CP3 injury and D’Antoni system ). Houston got involved in a 3-point competition in games 6 and 7 and paid the price abandoning what brought them some success in games 2-5. Funny you mention James Harden as regular-season Harden is twice the player play-off Harden is. You mention Smart ( who I never did which is also why I didn’t mention Rudy Gilbert/ Tristan etc). I spoke of two-wAy players in all eras who contribute offensively and aren’t liabilities defensively . There is a reason why Kyle Korver doesn’t make top ten lists, despite being as good a sniper as any - particularly I. This 3pt league

I like Kyrie and if I were a punter and had to watch a player , he’d be it. He is an entertainer ( though not a great passer but an ok one )but I wouldn’t have him as face of my franchise though if not built properly around and he certainly is not in my top -ten list. Add to the fact that he is injury prone , he drops even further

Guess it depends who makes your top-ten current NBA players??

So Melo finally signs with HOU. Worst kept secret btw.

Personally I don't see how this works - D'Antoni quit the Knicks because he couldn't coach him.

Plus his style of play doesn't chime with HOU IMO but we'll see how it pans out.

posted on 15/8/18

yeah don't really see how, I think D'antoni thinks he got CP3 and Harden to play together, maybe he can get Melo to adapt to.

What he would be good at was in game 7 of the conference finals when Houston missed 20 odd threes in a row. Instead of keep trying they could have got melo on iso and got some easy buckets.

posted on 15/8/18

Yeah literally D'Antoni's game is to rely on athletic players to play D then a lot of 1v1 ball.

If Anthony can only do half of that - then surely it isn't a great signing.

I agree with this.

However, Carmelo is notoriously bad at defending. No exaggeration. He is, so in that scenario you gain some firepower up front but lose the D which is necessary in playoff especially against GSW. Besides, Carmelo is the ultimate ball stopper. HOU don't play like that all.

Doubt Carmelo will suddenly transform in year 16?? He just doesn't have the legs for it. He is a shadow of what he once was ( And i never really warmed to him tbh)

posted on 15/8/18

Melo would be good in the Warriors I reckon, they don't even need plays just pass the ball about a bit and hope one of your top 3 GOAT shooters get a free look.

posted on 15/8/18

Yeah I agree with ya, I literally only think he would work in that scenario which would be like 2 minutes per quarter.
And they lost trevor Ariza. So Harden and Melo on defence at the same time doesn't look good.

As for ball stopper, Harden is probably even more of one but managed to make it work. I don't know how they can play together tbh, unless they set up a second string with carter williams and melo as the second unit.

Doesn't make sense. Must leave NY cap space though? Would have liked to have seen lebron and porzingis.

d'you think? I don't think carmelo's 3 point shooting is that great. But would have to check numbers.

More that he can shoot from anywhere, and his ability to score from midrange is probably second to KD
