I think we could create a parody Trump to run for Prime Minister. We could use the same kind of ideas to get the stupid to vote for him, but the normal/mildly intelligent will be in on it and know it’s a pissss take and will also vote for him. Then once in power he will reveal that he won’t do any of what he promised, it was just a tactic to get into power and everyone lols. Or did I just describe the actual Trump campaign? Who knows. Reckon I could pull it off though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hasn't Boris Johnson already done that sketch?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Edin

I think he tried to play a clever game in the referendum.

I think he wanted a close loss for the Leave Campaign to show the Euro Sceptics (bad spelling) that he tried and get them on side for a bid at becoming PM.

21 people on this forum so far would like to continue driving people into food bank dependency, slash the hell out of public services, continue to deepen the NHS and social care crisis, continue to allow our government to support, arm and train Saudi Arabia's famine inducing war crimes in Yemen and... You get the idea.

Stupidity, ignorance or vested interests. Which? Only three possible reasons for voting Tory under any circumstances.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From what I've read of your posts, we're politically not a million miles away from each other Berba, and I'd be interested in your thoughts on the Greens.

If I were voting, I'd be tempted by Corbyn's Labour, but would probably stick with the Greens given their priorities.
------------------------------

Politically I'd be a Green. Caroline Lucas is one of the most talented politicians around, always able to communicate ideas and issues very clearly, without sounding PR-trained and with rationally and careful recourse to evidence.

However, on purely strategic grounds, and in a first past the post system, I'll be voting Corbyn in June (there isn't much difference between his politics and the Greens as far as I can tell).

On an even playing field I'd vote for the Greens. The Tories have to be defeated though, and voting for them this time round won't help that cause.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree on the similarities between the policies of Corbyn's Labour and the Greens. They really aren't miles apart.

As I mentioned, the biggest difference for me is in priorities, which is why I'd sway to the Greens.

I wonder if Emre Can has read the Greens' policies on international relations (possibly holistically the best developed and most carefully considered of all the major parties', defence or economic development?

I don't vote

Don't think I know enough about politics to make an informed decision, don't feel like I should affect how our country is ran when I am completely clueless

May is an utter mess. She cares feck all for ordinary people. Using Brexit and austerity to align society even more in favour of the rich. If she didn't have the Tory media on her side, everyone would see her and the conservatives for what they really are

I agree with most of his policies (education, workers rights, energy/transport etc.) I also value our NHS greatly and protecting it is a priority for myself and Labour.
Out of interest, aside from Brexit, anything else swinging you towards the Conservatives?

I already do.

I think Corbyn took a reporter to task the other week about them not reporting on Labour's intentions. Just trying to point out how bad they are.

We do need the press to give him the chance to live or die by his policies but unfortunately they won't and nor will his own MPs.

Agree that Corbyn is a busted flush. But the main reason (imo) May has called election now is that to date, the UK has been an echo chamber in regard to brexit narrative.

As the consequences of Brexit start to become apparent to the general public, (Tories face an impossible task) public opinion will reflect.

Which is why an election now is perfectly timed.

So say Labour end up winning for whatever reason, is there any possibility that Brexit coudl be stopped? Or have another referendum to get it pushed through?

That's a good point. There may be a degree of future planning in this.

A general election in 2020 could be completely disastrous for the Tories.

Murdoch is team May and the English electorate eat up anything the rags print. At least there seems to be more critical thinking output from Scottish Education and a more politically minded electorate so we don't buy the Murdoch media bias because people seem more aware of it.

Corbyn has never stood a chance and on top of that he isn't a leader of anyone never mind the political opposition.

Not a chance.
The formal paperwork has been submitted and accepted.
Any change now would be at the discretion of the other 27 EU members.
We as a nation have told them all to fυсk off and I'm fairly sure they would say exactly the same to us if we tried to reverse the A50 submission.

a50 is *likely* to be revocable but much like the run up to the Iraq war, the political juggernaut is unstoppable.

Also worth noting with an increased majority the government will be able to implement the great repel bill/legislate practically unhindered.

I just think Corbyn lacks leadership, is too soft. At a time where we are going it alone I think we need someone strong in charge. For example I think Trump is a complete buffoon but the reason why people voted for him is that they knew he would get things done. Imagine Corbyn actually getting round to doing anything!

Also he says things like Argentina and Britain should share the Falklands when 99% of the popuation who live there are British seems very strange. I think this guy would just make things worse.

Luxembourg (CJEU) will ultimately decide but e27 don't want brexit as it is accepted its lose lose. UK still (in the main) ignorant to the consequences. Hence election now, rather than later.

Valid points. However, when I look at Brexit I look at the fact that about 50% of the Conservatives were against Brexit and it was a way to swing UKIP voters. With May and pushing for a 'hard Brexit', they're going for what is in my view, the worst way of leaving the Eurpoean Union and the no compromises stance, just will not work when negotiating with the EU on new legistlation. Finally, when you consider what the Conservatives are doing to our education and health services, I'd vote for anyone who can put a stop to these destructive policies.

That's just me though
