Think the whole teams needs a shake up.
Why can't English players battle when they need to save a match? Commentators always refer to Atherton's innings against SA in 1995. That's 22 years ago and probably the last time that an English player shows the bottle to bat big to save a match.
Thought Moeen was digging in there with 0 off 19 balls but he's just hit 21 from his last 11 deliveries. Must have realised the required run rate was stretching towards 3 an over.

Bell played a pretty good innings a few years back against New Zealand, although Prior got the plaudits for his century, Bell took a lot more time out of the game with his score (can't remember what it was). It was the match where Panesar did that hilarious dive.
Obviously not in the same league as Athers' 185 against the Saffers but how many innings have we seen like that from a player from any nation let alone England? There's a reason most teams lose from this kind of position. I do agree that this side more often not though just goes out with a whimper rather than anyone really digging in and putting up some sort of fight though.
Well, this is about to end in a hurry.
Not a lot of fight from the England batsman.
Well my hope of the batsman not playing aggressively and getting 130 all out pretty much was exactly what happened. 133 all out, although it was 45 overs rather than 30.
batting 2 days was never going to work, eng would have been better suited to go for the total, still good fightback from sa
shocking.. all the waffle all the yes it was bad all the explanations and all the excuses.. get ready for it..
You got to be kidding me, I thought they would lose after the first innings, but this is just pathetic.
NOTHING SHORT OF A DISGRACE....THAT TOP ORDER NEEDS TO REALIZE ITS TEST MATCH CRICKET....SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO GET IN LINE AND GRIT IT OUT.
atm....loads of talent...but no grit
But great comeback by South Africa, I really was questioning whether they were a force anymore, but it seems as if they are back on track.
Sa might not be the same force like they were 4 years ago. But they are still the best. Apart from their pathetic home record they do well away and have won a series in Australia only last year and could potentially win this one as well
England can still win the series the problem is the mindset.. being skittled all the time seems to be acceptable.
I never watched the bowling, how is Wood doing? I personally haven't many good test spells from him.
Is he just unlucky, not getting enough overs or simply not good enough at this format?
Can't afford for one of your main bowlers to go wicketless.
To be fair, the guys at the top didn't get out playing stupid shots, there was some good bowling from South Africa in the first hour to remove Jennings, Ballance and Root. Once Cook got out in avoidable fashion, the rest just followed suit with awful shot selection.
The guys in the middle and lower middle order like to play their strokes and probably get caught in 2 minds in this kind of situation. They want to play their natural stroke making game but know that they're meant to dig in. He wasn't the prettiest of batsmen but you knew someone like Colly would dig in when hope seemed lost.
Where are folks like Chupacity? Claiming humiliation and making useless threads! Now we say this is utter disgrace to get defeated like this especially at home..
Also this win is dedicated to JP Dumbiny.. 🍾🍺
Typical England this. One game brilliant and the other game awful. No fighting spirit in the team. You just don't know which England will turn up these days.

Two alarmingly deferential fourth innings collapses in consecutive Tests. Worrying number of test sides who can't hack it when the going gets tough.... Bayliss has a laid back approach and Root seems to have his favourites early on, which is bizzare.
i stil expect england to win the series 3-1
cue all the negativity and criticism and then all of a sudden england win the next 2 test match - people will say wow what amazing turnaround and fantstic achievement blah blah
writing is on the wall very predictable here in england.
fickle mentality
Rabada will surely come in for Oliver won't he which is bad news for England.
