Last night, Kepa advised Lunin to stay down the middle and it worked.

The goalkeeping coach identified 3 or 4 of City's takers who might take it down the middle. Lunin said he picked Silva's to stay put because it was only the second pen, saying that he felt it was easier to take that kind of risk earlier in the shootout.

It must have felt so great for Lunin to get even with Silva for embarrassing him so badly with the opener at the Bernabéu.

Interesting too that Madrid's last three penalties were taken by defenders.

Where does Toni Kroos rank in terms of great midfielders?

I've really not watched much European league football over the last decade or so, but most times I see him in the CL or international tournaments he's generally excellent.

Forgot to add - I'm asking because I rarely see Toni Kroos get discussed to the levels other great midfielders do, but surely with his record he's up there?

I recall Nick seemed to think him and Modric were on a par, I was dumbfounded and suggested it was due to Spurs bias. I summoned IOAG who stated that it was night and day between them.

@Tu Meke, I'm not the best person to ask, as I've never been Kroos' biggest fan. On form he's a great footballer, but he also goes through lengthy 'meh' periods.

Modric's twice the footballer Kroos is, and that's being very generous to the latter.
