Used to be mine, sort of, when I was a little sprat.

Where'd you live, Content?

I live in High Barnet. They used to play On Underhill (a stone throw from me). Arsenal reserves used to play their games there. A couple of years ago they moved to a new stadium “The Hive” between Edgware and Stanmore

Descended into farce this.

Good game that, first half especially. Sending off ruined it a bit.

marcelo should have had a pen towards the end

I'm not complaining about the ref. He made some wrong calls but the truth is both sets of players made his job extremely hard today.

that's not too far from where I live

Yeah, it was nice. Plenty of parks within walking distance from home, too. That's one thing I really miss about England.

This excerpt from a Barney Ronay article had me in stitches yesterday:

"[...] this was a performance of such minimalism it might have been etched on a grain of rice, a vision of the ultimate endgame some years from now whereby Ronaldo is wheeled on to the pitch by a litter of footmen, emerging from his bathing machine to patrol a roped-off zone around the penalty spot, sampling the air, occasionally dropping into a series of 'muscle poses' while in the background a football match takes place."

Somone tell me it's not going to come true though!

Capitalism. It's clearly designed to create a few winners and mostly "losers" who are kept in line by a few members of the managerial middle class who have been tossed some crumbs to remain compliant. Capitalism cannot exist without there being extreme poverty and a large disparity between the top and bottom of the income ladder. By definition, if one person can reap most of the rewards from the labor of thousands, then he or she will naturally be far wealthier than his/her employees, even if he does the same or less amount of work than they do on average.

Jeff Bezos is a good example since he gained the most amount of wealth of any billionaire this year. His net worth increased by $33.7 billion in 2017, but can we say that he did an amount of labor equivalent to $33.7 billion? There are people who work 18+ hour days in sweatshops to create the products sold on Amazon and yet they make slave wages while Bezos is making millions of dollars while he sleeps.

The funny thing about many of the rich -most of those I've met or heard interviewed, at any rate- is that they do in fact claim almost invariably to work much more than those who don't earn even a fraction of what they do.

They also like to characterise those who have not been able to cope with the system and fallen by the wayside as 'ungrateful leeches' who have no real interest in working, but would rather 'milk it' off whatever the state, in its infinite and misplaced mercy, throws their way.

Of course not all rich people are like this, but suffice it to say that if the compassionate were the majority in their ranks, no way would the world be in such a sorry state. And no way would Barça have won another double.

Well, exactly.

The problem with socialism, is nobody knows how far to take it. The further you go with it, the more authoritarian it becomes.

Actually hearing self made billionaires interviews like Warren Buffet, Bill Gate or Richard Branson are inspiring. They have'd their ups and down in their success.

Anyone listen read to Zig Ziglar's audio/books ?
