Stupid. I get that there are glory hunters who follow a successful team only for the opportunity to gloat about it and such people are t!ts, but for the most part people support successful teams because they're generally a) recognisable and b) entertaining to watch.
Who gives a f-ck what Joey Barton thinks? Bloke's a nob.
And anyway, does this mean that if your Grandad/Dad was a "glory hunter", then it's ok that you are too?
So it's okay to be a glory hunter if your dad or granddad was one?

here come the glory hunters with knickers in twist
I think he's talking about Manu fans and Chelsea fans
I agree with him, I don't understand why anyone would support a team from outside their area.

I just don't understand the mentality of supporting a club that have nothing to do with where you are from. Where's your local pride? I remember seeing a coach for Leeds based Man United Supporters once. Granted, some will be ex-pats but the notion of any Yorkshire man supporting Man United just doesn't compute with me at all. I'll never understand that mentality.
I can’t help that my team is successful due to my fantastic support. Arsenal and Liverpool fans are glory hunters without the glory. They’re hunting for glory, but all the glory is over here at United. We don’t need to hunt for glory when we have all of it already.

This stuff used to bother me but it doesn't anymore. I'm a proud United supported from London and I have always supported United. My dad doesn't follow football and his dad doesn't speak, so I never knew if he even liked football. I stated off a neutral and what's worse I was statistically likely not to be a fan of football. I'd rather support a team than be a neutral and growing up, nobody tells you at 5,6,7,8 you have to support your local team. You're just a kid at that point and you follow, A: what team your friends support or B: what teams play the most entertaining football. I remember once, I asked someone what team should I support and they said: whatever team you like the most, and I fully agree. This was before even understanding how leagues or tournaments worked. People are hypocrites if they are fine with a foreign player playing for the club but bitter towards 'glory hunters' who have supported the club regardless of the success of failures. It's a load of tosh. What would I be if I started supporting another club tomorrow because I cared what people thought? Woul;d that suddenly make me a stand-up fan?

"So it's okay to be a glory hunter if your dad or granddad was one?"
This sort of comment sums up the brainless section of football fans.
Do you even know what a glory hunter is?
Quite simple:
It's someone who chooses to support a club because they want to follow a club who wins things.
So if the child supports a club because his or her Dad does, then by definition they're not glory hunting, are they?
Engage brain.

Supporting a team was always a family thing for me. Think I would've been cast out if I supported the BS . Locality is a bit of a grey area as people move a lot nowadays. But it used to be about pride in the town/city you're from. Probably not so much anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be a local fan and be a season ticket holder, but it's too late now. I'm firmly a United fan and that will never change.

I agree with a lot of what you say, I certainly don't agree with this bit though. It isn't hypocritical at all. You cannot even begin to make a comparison between a player that comes over and represents your club and supporters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your honesty but o course, I can compare the 2, you can't make it about local pride and not have a single homegrown player ACTUALLY representing the club and then burn shirts when he decides to go home.
That means there are 300m 'losers' in the world.
