Plenty of southern and Scottish RS on this site.

Dirty plastics. Fallen in love with a team they would have only seen on tv. So what! Joey is a good Wum.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Loads of Southern bitters too. I moved down in the late 80's and there were as many Everton supporters as Liverpool supporters in my year. Everton were a good team then, so.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said, so what.

The ability to see a side was limited. Unless you travelled/lived locally.

My feeling is if you don't go to a few games a season home or away. Why even link yourself to the club? I go to Sheffield United manager re times a season with my Mrs than I bet 90% of 'fans' go to the team the obsess about on here.

So at least get down and support your local club and record the 'big team' and watch later.

What makes me giggle are the match threads for 'home' games.

I find it's perfectably acceptable for me to support UTD when they lose. These last 4 years, people have taken so much joy, or frustration out on me due to UTDs ...er lack of 'success'.
No comments about glory hunting, but I'm sure that will come back as soon as UTD challenge/pick up another title.
I don't subscribe to that you have to be a local, the clubs obviously operate in the opposite way to this kind of thinking, as our Pre-Season exhibitions have shown.
And as a kid, my heroes were on TV, gravitated towards UTD, cos I hated Liverpool, as they were winning everything... Wasn't allowed to go local matches, and didn't want to.
One word. Millwall.
Last 25 years have been amazing, UTD is in my heart. When they can still make a grown ass man like me still tear up/angry/smile... yeah UTD4LIFE!!

Pretty much agree with wessie here. I myself am from a city (now more recently it is ) but from an early age all I could remember was my dad talking about Man city & Man United. He was at Uni in Manchester in the early 50's & disliked Football. He was a southerner who followed cricket. Whilst at uni in the winter months his mates went to City one week & united the next depending on who was at home.
He left home when I was 6 & growing up in Brighton. The first team I saw on Match of the day was Manchester City. I got a littlewoods pools handbook and in the centre pages it had all 92 league clubs & Scottish with colours ground nicknames etc. I remembered him talking about city & united vaguely & saw City played in blue ( a boys colour) That is my sole reason of following city for now 52 years.... I went to Brighton as a kid and watched them in my early teens as that was about all I could afford. A trip to Manchester was a world away as a broke teenager.

If that makes me a glory hunter so be it. My passion has always been & always will be City and as most know there have been many dark days too... Naturally I always check to see how Brighton are doing too last weekend was weird as it doesn't happen very often that I want Brighton to lose.

I now live even further away across the other side of the world but on my last 2 visits back to the UK I took my daughter to see City at the Etihad 4 times & twice away and she too is a staunch City fan.

Sorry for the long winded post but I felt relevant to Bartons sterotype reasoning.

So all those tours the clubs like Man Utd do means they are getting glory hunters to watch Man Utd then

Its like with anything you can choose who to support. Its like Formula 1 you might support Ferrari but originate from England.

I only support British drivers, don't give a fek what they're driving as long as it's not a Ferrari.

What if you hate where you grew up?

if you're from england and you abandon your home team then you're a nob in my opinion.
if you're from england and support a pl team while still supporting your local then thats so so.
if your not english than you can support any one you want, glory hunter or like me.

Not sure why anyone feels the need to justify the club to support to anyone.

For some reason it is the sport where this glory hunter garbage comes up mostly from those who are bitter about the failures of their club.

Support who you like.

Quite. Pretty sure this is unique to football (in the UK at least), and possibly F1. Can't think of any others off the top of my head. Presumably it's down to the huge popularity of both.

People do go to some lengths to "justify" their choices. And get proper shirty should someone question their made-up "qualifications". It's amusing.

It's also amusing to watch people squirm when they begin to debate a point, realise the person they're debating with is right and then try to get out of admitting it.

Have a nice evening, all.

I was away from posting on here for about 18 months (busy, busy, busy) so I'd forgotten all about Winston.

This article fails to mention article 76a, in Irish law, which states:

'Any newborn child is to be given the choice between supporting Manchester United or Liverpool football club. There are no exceptions to this rule"

What about the Irish then? Eh, joey?

I personally don't get why you would comment on here whilst watching the game, an actual thread itself is hardly an issue though is it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, how on earth can you watch a match properly and post?
