So if they support the team BECAUSE their family does, then their reason for supporting the team can't be that they want to follow a team that wins things, can it?

What are you struggling with?

Great I now have to support Thurso FC in the North Caledonian Amateur League to restore my local pride.

Barton is a knobhead anyway

I'm not struggling with anything, the whole point is to question that assertion. Which you seem to be ignoring in favour of simply restating it with a few witless put-downs.

I'm not ignoring anything.

This is a very basic point, which I assume you understand, because you've ignored the point I made.

I'd argue that calling someone a glory hunter is a witless put down and deserving of a response on the same level.

Don't like it? Tough.

I'm from North Wales and started supporting United in the mid 80's. Why? Probably because my Dad supported them and probably because Mark Hughes was one of the stars (would have been around the same time he scored that bicycle kick against Spain) and was Welsh.

I've been to well over a 100 games travelling over 200 miles round trip to get there. Haven't been as much since buying a house and getting a mortgage but I have moved closer now and am only 70 miles away!

I also follow my (very) amateur hometown team and have been on their committee and helped organise a mountain race to raise funds for them.

Am I a glory hunter? Some would say yes but I wouldn't as the easier clubs to support at the time would have been Everton or Liverpool who were the best teams and were the best supported in my area (along with United).

It is what you make of it but one thing I can guarantee is that United losing a game hurts me just as much as someone local. The only difference may, and I say may here, is that the main rival for me has always been Liverpool rather than City. Some local United fans I've spoken to agree with this and some say it's definitely City but where I'm from LFC is the main one. Probably the reverse is true for them as well.

Oh Christ someone's set Winston off.

Cue two days of tedium and mind numbing pedantry.

Well according to the criteria set down by Barton

I'm ok, born in Manchester supporting my local team.

Say what you want about the Scouse clown he really knows how to wind people up.

Wouldn't be surprised if he has an account on here.

LQ has arrived - still reading my posts, still behaving like a child, still unable to understand how anyone can have a conversation that lasts longer than one post.

Bless him.

I think the real losers are the ones that started supporting say Liverpool then Arsenal then United then Chelsea then Man city then Chelsea again.

You get those people you know.

posted on 15/8/17

If one supports a team based on their parent supporting a team because they were glory hunting then their support is still ultimately founded on glory hunting. Surely if you think someone is a loser because they're a glory hunter then why is it okay for the glory hunting to be passed down through generations?

I'm not here to question anyone's support, I'm just questioning Barton's logic, which is brainless to do I guess?

I take it from all this hilarious banter that you're only a ManU fan because you dad was then. It's a pity really, you're well placed a conversation on the subject.

Haven't said anything of the sort and I've clearly outlined what is a simple point.

You've now chosen to behave like a child, presumably because you know I'm right but don't wish to admit it.

Grow up mate.

I know it could have been an interesting viewpoint on an ultimately tedious topic - but sadly not worth discussion and simply a "brainless" question. Some people really don't like their 'fandom' being questioned. It's a bit weird really - it really doesn't mean anything.

Not correct.

If one supports a team because their father does, their support is founded on supporting the same team as their father.

The definition of a glory hunter is that you choose to support a team because they are successful.

If a team's success has played no part in you starting to support a team, you can't possibly be a glory hunter.

Not a difficult point to understand.

Right about what? You haven't actually said anything? Just called a question "brainless".

A flawed question is a brainless question when the flaw is so obvious.

Right about the fact that if you support a club because of your dad, you didn't support the club because of your parents and therefore are not a glory hunter.

* you didn't support the club because of success

But you wouldn't have started supporting the team if not for your parent's glory hunting ways. Therefore you have glory hunting DNA, therefore you are a glory hunter.
