So what you're saying is that there are probably glory hunting Nottingham Forest fans out there, who weren't even alive the last time their club won a trophy.
Yes mate, that seems perfectly logical.

There were Forest plastics in my year at school even though we had QPR, Chelsea, Brentford, Fulham to choose from.
They soon lost interest in football when Forest stopped winning
CFC: FFP Champions (U20729)
My point was more about their children.
What about the 15 year old who has grown up supporting Forest because his Dad bought him a kit and took him to games as soon as he could walk?
Never seen anything like glory, but labelled as a glory hunter because his Dad started supporting them after their European successes?
Come on!

Fair play, they aren't plastics. But their dad was if he is from Surrey and started following Forest 77/8 season

Agreed
I find it hilarious that people have such hard and fast rules about this sort of thing.
Wessie that was a great comment. I've never lived in Liverpool more than 6 months at a time but then the longest I've lived at one place anywhere in the world is just 4 years, such has been my life.
My maternal grandpa was from Liverpool and a true red. Took me to two games with my brothers when I was very young. I'm sure the second was against Palace but can't even remember the first very well as I wasn't paying much attention at the time.
So I don't speak the lingo, in fact I don't speak anyone's lingo because I've lived in different places. I have this weird mixture, people can't figure me out be it spoken or written English because I've also been to schools in different countries lol. I'm certainly not scouse but I feel like an 'out of town' fan (I am)
For me there was only one club I could ever support, the club I felt closest to my heart was Liverpool so I don't care what anybody, local or not says and no one should.
The out of town glory hunters don't matter because they don't contribute or take away anything from the club. However, there are true fans in every country in the world.
These are people who care about the club so much that they buy official merchandise for themselves or their kids, they bother to join local fan groups and join up with others to watch the game at the 'official' Liverpool pubs, which are many, and stuff like that. Those who can afford it travel to Anfield, those who can't are content with the TV. These for me are fans as much as anyone.
In any case, the clubs and the Premier league are now dependant on the following of these fans which enables them to sell games and merchandise worldwide for a sheetload of money so if the club is relying on a guy in China or Malaysia to pay that subscription and buy that shirt, how is that not a fan?
Well there are hundreds of millions of losers worldwide then. Maybe that's what Barton really wanted to say?

Dirty plastics. Fallen in love with a team they would have only seen on tv. So what! Joey is a good Wum.
I'm not from London, and where I'm from (Shrewsbury) everyone supports a bigger team. Shrewsbury haven't ever been anything but a League 2 or lower team since I've followed football but I still support them, and follow Spurs.
It's up to everyone to support who they want, but they should expect flack if they arrogantly boast about a club's success when they have no local affiliation with that team. That's how I see it.

Loads of Southern bitters too. I moved down in the late 80's and there were as many Everton supporters as Liverpool supporters
=========================================================
The football team I play for in London has three London Evertonians in it, none of whom have any family connection with the club or with the city.
Bill Bryson's last book has a section in it about visiting Goodison with his son-in-law, who's a lifelong Everton fan, but is from Somerset, and has no family connection with the club or city.
It's Everton's dirty secret.
They are asked to keep it quiet, when they visit Goodison
If you aint from the area of the team you support, just imitate the accent like Joey did in France

I've no problem admitting I started supporting United as they were the best when I was a kid. I don't have any other United supporting family although my grandmothers first cousin did make a few appearances for United.
Having said that I go to OT at least once a season and will hopefully go more when I can afford it. I've found my support actually getting stronger since SAF left and the good times have somewhat left.
If this makes a glory hunter I don't really care but I don't think it makes me less of a fan.

I do agree with you though. It is up to people to support who they want to.
The fact is some lower league clubs charge a lot for tickets when you compare the standard to the higher leagues. I'd quite like to see the PL money subsidise some of the lower league clubs to encourage them to reduce prices. Then, more people will go and see their local team and we can, perhaps, get the 3pm PL games on TV.
