Jimmy Greaves isn't even the greatest English footballer ever
Rip Jimmy
Ronaldo or Messi are the best ever no doubt about it.
1. Messi
2. CR7
3-whatever. The rest
Those two are everlasting legends, they've pushed beyond the limits of what was thought possible before them.

That's very subjective. He has held the top flight European goal scoring record for over 40 years, and only beaten this year, so he has to be considered the greatest ever English player.
No offence to Buffon but I would never have a goalkeeper in a list of top football players ever.

Maradona.
By some distance for me.
Maybe I'm being biased because of my age but Messi and Ronaldo easily the greatest footballers to ever live. The amount of goals they scored and what they have achieved. I might of been a 90s boy but I just don't see any other player in the old era coming close. Pele scored most of his goals in a weak Brazilian league. Messi for me greatest ever player in history.

Jimmy Greaves: 344 league goals in 478 games for Chelsea and Tottenham
Wayne Rooney: 200 league goals in 463 appearances for Everton and Manchester United.
If you look at Maradonnas goal scoring record in Europe, it's actually not that great. He never scored 20 goals plus in any season in Europe. All his goals mostly was in the Argentinian league. Messi is regularly scoring over 40 goals in Europe every single season. The guy is incredible.
Pele by a country mile, three world cup medals and 1,000 goals.
Don, how can you say he scored his goals in a weak Brazilian league. That league produced some of the greatest ever players. The Brazilian league of the 50s and 60s was about the strongest in world football.

Sandy , your going to be biased because of your age mate. The Brazilian league is awful mate. It might produce individual brilliant players and still does not the standard is terrible. No way in a million years would Pele of scored 1000 goals in Europe sorry mate.

If I did, I wouldn't have buffon, brilliant as he is.
Don Diego carried Napoli and Argentina to glory. In an era where defenders would be able to clatter him at any opportunity
Diego
Pele
Best
Then CR7 and Messi
I agree Ace, the 1000 goals is terribly over rated in my opinion when you are playing in the Brazilian league for your whole career.

If you look at what Messi has done for his country it pales into insignificance when compared to Maradona

That by cycle kick in escape to victory though
Tino, I'm not debating Maradonna was a great player but his goal scoring record is pretty average in Europe. Compare it to Messi who is outstanding. Messi does everything on the ball that Maradonna does.

Yeh probably but Argentina we're a lot better back then. I'm sure if Messi was playing for Argentina in the 80s, he would be achieving what Maradonna has. No one even comes close to Messi sorry.
Maradona could do things with a football, that Messi could only dream of.
Im sure even he would laugh at being told he was better than Diego Maradona.
