Ex-Machina - sleek, cerebral, satirical. Great critical acclaim but didn't make much of a box-office mark.
Matrix for sure, though the final sequel was an abomination.
The Martian.
I've never got on that well with sci-fi, the geeks do my swede with their klingon speak and their pedantry over what star wars character said what
But my faves are
Matrix (original)
Blade Runner
Avetar
I am sure there are more but they are the ones that stick out
Best 10 sci-fi films from the last 10 years:
Children of Men
Star Trek
Inception
Rogue One
10 Cloverfield Lane
Interstellar
District 9
Cloverfield
Ex-Machina
Force Awakens
In that order. Don't think I've missed any out.

Just can't do Avatar! Looks awful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I like that It's about the morality and greed of humans, I seem to gravitate to that sort of sci-fi film for some reason ...Blade Runner touches on the morals of self aware AI as well

And "Under the Skin".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Had that on DVD for ages! Still not watched it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not for everyone to be honest. Some would find it slow-paced and pointless, but I thought it was a wonderful film and a great performance from Johansson.
Flash Gordon
Flesh Gordon
One not mentioned so far is Event Horizon. Thought that was really good, if a bit short.
Flesh Gordon
I was only talking about that the other day
2001 A Space Odyssey
Alien
Blade Runner
Honourable mentions: original Star Wars trilogy, Event Horizon (v scary), Solaris, The Thing, Terminator/T2
Not a huge Matrix fan. The original is pretty good, but it was hijacked by conspiracy theorists, nerds and fanboys. It's not as 'deep' as it lets on, especially when compared with 2001.

Star Wars trilogy
ET
Matrix 1
Jurassic park
District 9
Shout of to Ex Machina which was amazing
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ex Machina is an excellent film/movie/whatever!
Which reminds me Isaacs Asimov's classic novel I,Robot portrayed by Will Smith is an amazing film also, for the dilemma we may well face very soon regarding AI these type books are generally predictive!
Of course a classic novel generally makes an excellent big screen production like one of my favourite author's Robert Ludlum's fantastic Bourne Trilogy.

When talking of The Matrix, it is film 1 of the trilogy. Which should have been left where it was, and not had the abominations of 2 and 3
Anyone seen Moon? Or Apollo 18?
The first Matrix was good, such a shame it had Keanu (can't act) Reeves as the main character

I could easily put all 3 of the original Star Wars as my top 3 but I won't for variety.
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. The Matrix
3. Alien
Cloverfield must be the sheitiest film ever made
