2001 A Space Odyssey
Alien
Blade Runner

Honourable mentions: original Star Wars trilogy, Event Horizon (v scary), Solaris, The Thing, Terminator/T2

Not a huge Matrix fan. The original is pretty good, but it was hijacked by conspiracy theorists, nerds and fanboys. It's not as 'deep' as it lets on, especially when compared with 2001.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

When talking of The Matrix, it is film 1 of the trilogy. Which should have been left where it was, and not had the abominations of 2 and 3

Yes

This thread has given me a load of new films to watch which I haven't seen before. Not seen Ex-Machina but may give it a watch later based on what people have said in here.

Surprised Interstellar has appeared so much on this thread yet Chris Nolans other sci fi film, Inception, hasn't.

Don't get me wrong I loved interstellar but it had plenty of flaws in it.

Others include, obviously the Star Wars films, Looper is brilliant if you haven't seen it, edge of tomorrow or live die repeat or whatever it calls itself was surprisingly excellent, the Martian was great, Snowpiercer was phenomenal and not enough people know about that film, and 2001 a space odyssey is a classic.

Cloverfield must be the sheitiest film ever made

I completely agree. I sat through the first hour and was so bored wanted to change the channel, but had already invested enough time in it I wanted to see how it ended. Absolute waste of time. Never enjoyed a film less than cloverfield.

Best 10 sci-fi films from the last 10 years:

Children of Men
Star Trek
Inception
Rogue One
10 Cloverfield Lane
Interstellar
District 9
Cloverfield
Ex-Machina
Force Awakens

In that order. Don't think I've missed any out.

Snowpiercer.

Seems no one on here has mentioned:
2001, a Space Odyssey

Is it not considered science fiction on this football board??

The film was written by Clarke and Kubrick and featured specialist artwork by Roy Carnon.[3] The film is notable for its scientific realism, pioneering special effects, and provocatively ambiguous imagery and sound in place of traditional narrative techniques.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release, 2001: A Space Odyssey is today thought by some critics to be one of the greatest films ever made and is widely regarded as one of the best science fiction films of all time. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, and received one for visual effects. It also won the Kansas City Film Critics Circle Best Director and Best Film awards of 1968. In 1991, 2001: A Space Odyssey was deemed culturally significant by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

I put the Star Wars original trilogy as my top 3 and I don’t think that’ll ever change but that’s down to sentiment and nostalgia as much as quality.

I also seen somebody mention ‘Enemy Mine’ - fantastic shout. If anyone hasn’t seen it, it’s about a human and an alien who both crash land on an unknown planet and have to co-exist.

I watched it as a kid and remember being terrified to be honest but I also appreciated how fantastic it was.

As for the more modern stuff, I was very impressed with Children of Men. Go and watch it.

By the way, I’ve also just watched the first 3 episodes of the brand new Star Trek Discovery series and I thoroughly enjoyed all 3. It’s on Netflix now.

My favourite sci fi of all time is definitely Alien and Cameron's "Aliens" which was equally as brilliant as the 1st.

I love Alien but Aliens just shades it for me. Unfortunately after the first three (Alien three is ok, not great) the Alien films have been shiiite

Oooft I love sci-fi. Not managed to read the replies but...

So many to mention.

Alien and indeed Aliens are genuinely very good films regardless of genre. So are Terminator 1 & 2. So too Total Recall (original) and of course Star wars 4,5 and 6. Marvel films are always good but I used to read the comics.

Then you have planet of the apes old ones and last two new ones and Hunger games which are good.

Moon is a fantastic film plus the classics like space oddessey.

Then there are the concept films like Interstellar and Inception.

What's mental is that some are now coming true. Blade Runner (one of my favourite films ever) and Ex-Machina (wonderful film) are happening. They've literally made robot birds;

And AI dolls are all over the news. Elysium will happen I'm sure (Tories in the sky) and it wouldn't surprise me if Solent Green, Logans Run and Running Man came to fruition and if you go back to the 1920's Metropolis is pretty much bang on. I may be wrong but I think the set of Metropolis (which cost comparitively LOADS for its time) was used in Blade Runner.

Saying all that STILL no-one has managed to make a good Judge Dredd.
