Jesus you opened a right can of worms here biggish.

I know Mr C.
I was chatting with a group of parents the other day during our kids football training and there was diverse views on the topic which is why i thought i would post my feelings on here to see other's views.
I am not surprised by the diversity of opinions, but i am surprised by the hostility of some that have opposing views.
not you Edin
Yeah I think you saying that you don't want the World Cup in Qatar and Russia has led to people thinking that you support whatever the British govt do abroad. It's a complex issue tbf.

I agree, which is why I never said anything about the country of your birth part. It's like the whole mentality on this forum that the club you support somehow validates your opinion.
However there is also a point in that there is a lack of consistency where the line is drawn. (This point is a hypothetical as I don't know your stance with) but lets say you are OK with the USA hosting it. A country that singles out Muslims from a presidential level and doesn't let them in the border; a country built on slavery and has racism and bigotry running through its roots; a country that has participated in countless disgusting wars and killed thousands of innocent lives partly for their own gain; a country in which its own police-force kills lots of innocent lives. Who meets the probably hypocritical standards and who doesn't?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Edin....the last 12 months are without a doubt the most difficult for sometime for the USA, but i think it is unfair to use this period as typical of the country.
Their last president was Black, i am not sure, but i think we can say that neither England, Germany or France have yet had a black President or Prime Minister.
A country built on slavery, well as mentioned before, sadly empires have been 1000s of years. Today modernised forms of slavery still exist, but I don't think they exist today USA, but in countries like Qatar.
And as i said it comes down to one's individual criteria.
You clearly include a high weighting on foreign policy. I do to, but I also weigh it up agst foreign aid too.
But for me personally, a state that will happily make people disappear of the streets for their opposing political views never to be seen again is not worthy of a global propaganda window.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't mind your individual criteria as it with good heart albeit (with no disrespect) a little naive in my view.
I would like to point out though that this time period is very typical of the country. Obvious racism really isn't much worse than systematic racism; if anything it is more apparent and thus easier to tackle. It is a country that is built on taking away the basic human rights of a group of people, and when finally 'freeing' them, not giving any appropriate opportunity to level the playing field, to educate or relocate people who have had literally everything taken away from them. A country in which between the 1999-2014 76 unarmed people of colour were murdered by the Police - a service meant to protect its population.
However this is massively moving away from the point of the article, and the one I was trying to make. You can comfortably denounce the Qatar world cup based on the obvious wrongful impact it has had. Wheares the Russian World Cup is a lot more subjective, and FIFA probably shouldn't be the ones responsible for saying what is right and wrong.

"not you Edin" reads as one of two ways
Either you are not shocked by my hostility or that you aren't grouping me in the hostile bunch. Probably right either way.....

I think you no what i meant really lol
nd FIFA probably shouldn't be the ones responsible for saying what is right and wrong.

Sidey made this point earlier and i think he and you are correct.
But who really pull the strings of FIFA? Well of course it is the corporate sponsors.
If we are going to get into the corruption of FIFA then thats a whole other article
They appeared to care more about Dele Alli giving the finger than they do Qatari lives or fan racism.
