Is that what's happening here? Because if it isn't then you're just saying something that's neither here nor there, deviating from the topic so that the discussion cannot focus.

This is exactly the goal, blur the lines and detract from/conflate the current events to stop people focusing on a single news story

Been away for 48 hours and return to see that our conversation on current events in the US was derailed as usual
Current events are reasonable to discuss IN ISOLATION, if Texas passes a Draconian law on abortion AND pays people 10k to snitch on their neighbours then that's worth discussing,
We don't need to cover every single nation state to have had such laws in the last 1000 years, nor do we need to list every country that currently has such laws, we were discussing a current news item, stop shutting such conversations down, it's ridiculous.
If America brings in a backwards law I will criticise it, and I'll do the same in isolation if Sweden do it,
If Israel seizes land in Gaza forcibly I WILL discuss it in isolation, and if Norway decides to do the same I'll discuss it.
If the EU makes stupid changes to laws I'll discuss it, and chances are the same people saying "You just hate America" won't pipe up with similar scenarios globally that also need to be added at the bottom as an addendum.
Let people discuss the news ffs, its literally the purpose here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And others are free to voice their opinions also Insert. If I want to say x, y and z then I will. I’m not telling anyone that they cannot discuss a,b and c so I don’t see what your problem is. You’re advocating for free speech but trying to deny the same right to others?
Doesn’t make sense mate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not like I'm saying "You can't discuss Scandinavia"
But you and Tbab were literally saying "Stop discussing America"
What I'm saying is, that it's ridiculous to weigh in with commentary on current events with shiiiiiit like "Why aren't you criticising Ireland and Scandinavia" when talking about a change of the law in Texas ffs.
Then claiming people have an obsessive hatred of one country because we are talking about the news ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We literally weren’t though, were we? Stop exaggerating and misrepresenting what was said, you’re wasting time in doing so.
The conversation started about the somewhat ridiculous new law. Then it went on to subsiding of the pill etc and it was said that it was ridiculous how a developed country such as the US didn’t offer the pill for free. When actually several other developed countries don’t, including Spain and half of the Scandinavian countries.
It’s fine for people to bemoan the US’s position on free contraceptive pills but it is also fine to point out that several other countries with much more of a socialised outlook and approach also do not offer it for free.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not quite how the conversation evolved though was it?
The idea that the US should subsidise the pill wasn't pulled out of thin air, it was because I was asserting that banning abortion without offering another alternative was ridiculous, and that if you want to tackle abortion rates then you treat the cause, not just outlaw it with no clauses for Rape and incest.
Nothing at all to do with any other country, unless they too have just announced a six week law, with snoopers bounties.
So yes, it was whataboutery.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn’t whataboutery, people were talking about the US’s lack of free supply of the pill, so I pointed out that several other countries, notably Spain and some of the Scandinavian countries also don’t and they’re very socialised generally, especially with healthcare. Which just shows that it’s not always a predictable picture when it comes to that specific element.
I wasn’t chatting about the ludicrous Texans and I’ve mentioned previously that on this issue this is where I differ from a lot of conservatives, even though it’s obviously a tough topic and not really a clear right or wrong.
I don’t think I responded to a post of yours from memory mate, thought it was someone else.
And as I said, we weren’t literally saying “stop discussing America”.

It's a huge subject that covers a broad range of ideas, such as dumping human waste in to the ocean to cause phytoplankton blooms to imitate whales (because we have killed so many) to creating clouds to reflect sunlight back out of the atmosphere.
All come with potential side effects, such as seafood with human gut diseases or chemical rain.
But the flooding deserts one would be a way to manage *where" floods during the early stages of climate change, and the idea of flooding the Sahara has been a topic of conversation for some years, but this is the first time I've seen a proper economic proposal put forward for any of these projects with regards to flooding death valley, population < 300 people, with the potential for homes and businesses and new towns housing 10s if not hundreds of thousands, as well as huge hydroelectric dams, tourism, water sports, and even a new shipping route, as well as it having the potential to be a huge resource with regards to fish.
But deserts also play a role in the climate, most of the earth's breathable air is caused by sea plankton, which would of course exist in these new seas, but the main source of nutrients for them include desert winds blowing dust in to the sea, particularly from the Sahara.
It's gaming and weighing up intervening in natural processes to fight climate change, if flooding some low laying deserts could prevent the need for huge flood defences/relocating cities then that too would be a huge carbon offset.

Don't mind admitting I'm fairly dense when it comes to taxation, but on the face of it - it's a good start. Although I'm not sure why they have to create a new tax to plug the gap they've created by cutting other taxes. Presumably, knowing this particularly government, it's some kind of scam on the working people of this country to please the idle wealthy.
No, why bump up NI and not income tax/capital gains or ?
Conservatives looking after their core vote (the greatest users of social care) at the expense of the young and low paid.

What's people's views on Geo-engineering, saw a "What if" short on flooding death valley in the USA, to regreen a huge area, open up hydropower opportunities and limit sea level rises.
The offset is that you would be destroying a HUGE area of desert and displacing all of its wildlife, plus the two necessary canals could cost up to £50bn.

Don’t know much about it. Layman it for me

If you just constantly attack America or Israel, and do not address China or Iran etc too, then eyebrows are raised
-----
Is that what's happening here? Because if it isn't then you're just saying something that's neither here nor there, deviating from the topic so that the discussion cannot focus.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is exactly the goal, blur the lines and detract from/conflate the current events to stop people focusing on a single news story
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems pretty obvious to me. Basically, they wish you would stop but they can't come out and tell you to shut up so they do the next best thing.
