We are seeing the car market here inflating alarmingly due to a lack of new cars, so new cars need to enter the market, and the choice is ICE, Hybrid or full electric

So of course it's an environmental choice.

^ In the US and UK, for example, anyway.

Other parts of the western world, like Scandinavia, for example, are much better at putting people who actually understand the subject matter and have experience and expertise in charge of decisionmaking and at the heart of policy development.

US government has won its appeal over UK judges decision not to extradite Assange.

Taking back control of our laws!

Regardless of opinion on Assange, we should tell the US to fook off! It doesn't work the other way!

Judge orders that the case be sent to Westminster Magistrates with the direction that the District Judge send it to UK Home Secretary for a final decision on extradition.

You can have both.

What I don’t believe in, though, is politicising or democratising everything, or handing decisionmaking on complex, technical issues to completely unqualified, inexperienced people.

I think a strong, successful democracy recognises that politicians are there to ensure that the right people are listened to when policy is explored and developed, and when decisions have to be taken; and not to determine policy and look then for people who buy into the concept to support it, or to make ideologically-driven decisions on subjects they don’t understand.

Unfortunately, what we are seeing at the moment is far too much of the latter.

It's a pickle especially with the Harry Dunn case

Especially in a FPTP system the politicians are supposed to be our democratically accountable representatives who listen to advisers and act in our interest.

They're supposed to listen to their civil service (who often fill the expert role) and act accordingly.

It's not an awful system so long as we have "good chaps" in government

Not just Harry Dunne case, they want to get him over to the states to try him under espionage laws...for revealing things they didn't want revealed.
Imagine Pippa Crerar was arrested for spying for revealing Cummings Barnard Castle trip or the No.10 party.

I mean Assange is a very dangerous ideologue who put many people at risk with what he did and the way he did it. Possibly propped up or fed by people who want to undermine western democracy too

Doesn't mean the crimes he more or less blew the whistle on aren't crimes which it's in the public interest to expose of course

Perfect example of the above:

Why the fack should any old elected MP, then appointed summarily by the PM to the post of Home Secretary without recourse to qualification or experience, be making that decision?

It isn’t and shouldn’t be considered a political decision. It’s a facking legal matter, and Patel isn’t qualified to make legal judgments.

Ministers will be able to overrule judges in PMs plans though

Nevermind AOC not knowing about the 3 pillars... Boris wants to knock em down!

I won't lie, I don't like him or agree with how he went about doing what he did, but we shouldn't be extraditing him under this legislation as it opens a can of worms that exposes all journalists. (Debate about him being a journalist aside.)
