I mean Assange is a very dangerous ideologue who put many people at risk with what he did and the way he did it. Possibly propped up or fed by people who want to undermine western democracy too
Doesn't mean the crimes he more or less blew the whistle on aren't crimes which it's in the public interest to expose of course
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Does Assange even describe himself as a journalist? I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say that. He’s a hacker, a political activist and an executive editor of sorts, and I would think he’d describe himself as such (or similar) if pinned down.
Can you explain why you believe he’s a “very dangerous ideologue”?
For me he isn’t remotely as dangerous as the majority of those involved in the crimes and corruption Wikileaks has exposed.
Wikileaks has made mistakes on occasion, arguably in terms of timing and certainly in the failure to redact the names of innocents, for example. There are also legitimate questions to be asked I think about it’s failure to release certain documents it has withheld.
But it lives, and will live on, beyond Assange, continuing to perform an incredibly important and valuable function.
I’d be interested to know which particular people you’re referring to which you believe Wikileaks put at risk, Crouch.
It seems to me like he his motivation on face value is to air it all out and give everyone the information in a sort of "free market"
The way he just published all the cables put service and information personnel at risk as well as the states and citizens they represent.
I don't think there's a perfect way of doing it and whistleblowing is vital and should be protected but he was at very least reckless in his approach
Who defines who are the “innocents” who’s names should be redacted? That in itself is subjective and unfortunately is largely political in nature to define.

People who are inarguably in no way complicit in or associated with crimes and corruption being exposed.

I’m not referring to you here, but for me, a lot of those people named in material published whom others have argued should have been protected - including service personnel, diplomats and corporate employees - were, whether under orders or otherwise, complicit in the crimes being exposed.
Those people, as a general rule, I don’t have sympathy for.
@MattGoodwin
Labour is not currently benefitting from a positive endorsement of either their policies or leader. Starmer remains v weak, is widely seen by approx. 60% as not prime ministerial & on increasingly salient issues like immigration & economy Labour has serious legacy problems.
We are also heading into re-run of 2015. Amid tighter polls, Cons will warn against a Lab-SNP coalition & use that to mobilise England. Cameron used 2015 EU Ref to do that. Cons may use illegal migration & culture wars. Either way as a strategy it plays to new Conservative voters.
Matt Goodwin has NEVER given Starmer any respect and his fantasy of a Lab SNP coalition is nonsense.
If anyone would potentially break the union to hold onto England and Wales the last 5 years suggests it's the Tories

Indeed, and every time Westminster has as the party of government a party which has negligible support in scotland that feeling grows stronger
Maybe Labour should go the Ed Miliband route again
