Have to say I'm impressed with our government's reaction to the refugee crisis. We have already taken in 5,500 from Ukraine.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we’re at about 3000

Some good schemes from many governments. Full NHS including mental health services available
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We've waived the visa requirement for the moment and there's been a great response from the public to letting out 2nd homes/rooms etc.
First paddy's day parade in 3 years next Thurs. City centre will be carnage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My Birthday, can actually celebrate in a pub for the first time in 2 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Boris is actually st Patrick!

Over half the refugees are children, with the remainder largely combined of women and the elderly. Yet the UKgov are citing security risks as a reason for insisting on visas. And patting themselves on the back for a job well done.

Only 2,000 here to date. I think the problem must be actually getting them here, because they don’t need a visa to enter, there’s a shiiiitload of accommodation already reserved, the govt has secured and protected 13,000 jobs, tax and social security numbers on arrival, immediate access to medical and psychological care, etc.

I expect there’ll be a fair bit of collaborative redistribution around Europe in the coming days as more refugees move through Poland westwards.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of Europe are processing refugees on entry. Where they are given aid, shelter etc. As far as I'm aware (to date) there hasn't been any instances of hostiles.

The security threat is absolute nonsense. If there were Russian spies, hostiles etc that wanted to get into the UK, (posing as refugees) the GRU would ensure they had the correct documents to enter the UK anyway.

Known GRU agents Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov were granted visas in 2018 when they poisoned the Skripals.

Yes - this went so swimmingly in 2015?

posted on 13/3/22

I think it's pretty stupid not to recognise that a) refugees should largely be housed in countries they have ties with or are situated near their own borders and b) vetting is legitimate when people will abuse the system and c) mass movements of people are often co-opted by economic migrants and 'refugees' not even from the country of conflict

All this happened and was admitted by the EU in 2015 when Germany massively mishandled the Syria crisis.

To the security risk argument, it’s a load of bollox, clearly.

Even undocumented refugees are being let straight in here, with security checks then being undertaken post-arrival.

What kind of immediate threat does the UK govt think these women, children and invalids are going to pose?

The crisis is the biggest displacement of people since WW2.

How anyone observing the devastation in Ukraine can defend the UK government's actions beggars belief.

I wasn’t linking the two. I just didn’t think the numbers were as high as you indicated but it’s a forecast from the UN
