There’s a proper debate to be had about MPs and money… although not with half of the people on this forum.

One argument is that these are vital roles in running the country, and the current pay structure is too low if we want the best people.

Plenty of arguments against that, of course.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By that do you mean anyone who disagrees with you should be excluded?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Disagrees with me? I haven’t written an opinion, have I?

Ffs, grow up.

You’re waiting for someone else’s opinion so you can disagree with it

Post Brexit Numbering.

1 Lammy = 20 Tories.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lammy has a radio show talking to the public, the Tory MPs interviewing Tory MPs, which is a no-no according to OfCom regulations
I suppose their "out" is that these interviews are not news even though they're on GBNews which by definition isn't a news channel, it's an echo chamber.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
GB News has the tagline one it's website "Britain's News Channel" isn't a news channel

The standard of MPs is largely p!ss poor right now but I don't really think upping the wage is going to change it.

Also not sure just because you're already earning a lot of money makes you the "best" person for the job.

Could be the end of Netenyahu (finally) and his fascist-backed regime.

Agree with the first point, but I don’t think the discussion is just about upping the pay.

I think it’s about how you attract proper talent into these roles, if that is at all possible.

Pay has to be related - surely the best people cost more. It’s not the only factor, but generally the more you pay, the better skilled the worker.

Do you need the most skilled people sat in parliament? Their advisors and civil servants are arguably more important.

And their renumeration package is far more than just the headline wage, what we really need to filter out is the people who go in to it for the power and to provide favours.

I think the statistic on the guardian the other day was that 170 MPs since 2017 have retired from parliament in to sectors that they had influence over.

There are a lot of variables in this, but yes, I think we do need highly skilled people in these positions.

I'm not saying I necessarily support the role being paid lots more, but I think there's a debate to be had about why we're ending up with these idiots in place.

Taking PPE at uni should be a disqualifier for ever being an MP. It's created this professional MP class where as soon as you qualify you're into a MPs office as a researcher and then learn how to play the game rather than fight for your constituents.
