Also, crime has not increased.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It has, fewer report crime these days unless it’s to make an insurance claim
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That doesn't prove that crime has increased. Can you even prove that? Leave alone the assertion that crime has increased?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you honestly think the country is a safer place and criminality has decreased in the last 14 years?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, you have an arbitrary point in history to compare with? I didn't know that. Did you mean that crime has increased since Tories came in?

Tbh, I have no idea but I'm sure the stats and figures are available somewhere. When it comes to these things I like to stick to cold hard facts, which sometimes I discover do not agree with what I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, use the year you wee born as a starting point.

Btw, who's ‘cold hard facts’ do you believe?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Based on the assumption that most of us here are between 25-40 odd say. Yes, crime has declined since then.

You think otherwise because good news isn’t popular to report and with the huge increase in media each globally, news reaches many more people quicker and easier than ever before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Explained it better than I ever could have
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite the typo

What a wonderful advancement of your argument Boris.

The stats are there for you to find, go look at the crime rates per 100k from say 1990-2024

Then you come back here and say ‘sorry Sat Nav, it was I who was talking bollox, not you’

Tories bleating because they claim Labour arent showing Diane Abbott the respect she deserves.

Ypy really, really, couldnt make that up.

Unbelievable. They have been crucifying her for 40 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do we not want to improve the standard of politics in the UK? If we’re already finger pointing to the conservatives, then we’re already enabling the same type of cynical politicking seen in the past 10+ years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She shouldnt be able to stand for Labour if they dont want her to
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Define 'Labour'.

There's no evidence that the party membership - and it is supposedly a democratic, membership-guided organisation - want her to be barred.

It'd have been more accurate to write "She shouldn't be able to stand for Labour if the NEC doesn't want her to." Which is an opinion that not everybody, least of all her Constituency Labour Party, shares.

Asked to confirm whether the news is true - "yes or no" - Starmer tells the reporter "no, that's not true".

"No decision has been taken to bar Diane Abbott," he continues.

"The process that we were going through ended with the restoration of the whip the other day, so she's a member of the Parliamentary Labour Party, and no decision has been taken barring her."
---
So either Abbott or Starmer are telling porky's or there's been a big mix up.

Are we measuring all crime? I know there’s been shenanigans afoot in recent years to exclude certain categories of crime from some stats for reasons that are not obvious to me.

Yeah fraud and computers, no idea why either.

Unsure of the parameters mate but everyiggn I’ve looked at has gone down and up a little in recent years. Which is probably also why Boris feels the way he does.

I wondered this. Plus add 2 years of COVID lockdowns etc giving a helping hand bring state down.

NEW: If elected, Rishi Sunak will shut down "Mickey mouse" university courses studied by 1 in 8 students to fund 100k new apprenticeships

Ffs you had 14 years to do this

So 1% of rapecases reach the charge stage, the criminal justice system has been underfunded to the point of NHD style waiting times for justice, as a result victims are giving up in it in droves and not long after the pandemnic the Tories decided to not include fraud in their figures. Thing like shoolifting, burglary and car theft have basically been decriminalised as well asrape going off that 1% charge figure.

But Sat Nav says crime has come down under the Tories

The best one is they've said they'll raise £6bn by clamping down on tax avoidance.

Imagine basically admitting you've let it slide for 14 years

Shoplifting used to be a crime costing businesses over £4bn a year

By not prosecuting people, the number of convictions have plummeted.

Tories, tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime

I thought crime had rocketed in London under Sadiq Khan. Or so we were told by Sat Nav a couple of weeks ago.
