Also, crime has not increased.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It has, fewer report crime these days unless it’s to make an insurance claim
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That doesn't prove that crime has increased. Can you even prove that? Leave alone the assertion that crime has increased?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you honestly think the country is a safer place and criminality has decreased in the last 14 years?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, you have an arbitrary point in history to compare with? I didn't know that. Did you mean that crime has increased since Tories came in?

Tbh, I have no idea but I'm sure the stats and figures are available somewhere. When it comes to these things I like to stick to cold hard facts, which sometimes I discover do not agree with what I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally don't know either way but the Police and local Council my employer) did a pretty wide ranging but unofficial survey in Edinburgh and especially the peripheral housing estates where the majority of the population live and one of the overriding issues was thatt people had stopped reporting issues that they might have 10-15yrs previously, was a mix it seemed of lack of faith in the Police and also that even if they did report it there was nothing that could be done anyway.

I work in a tough peripheral estate right amongst all the issues and live close by and from a personal perspective I have seen an increase in both violent offences and especially petty theft and shoplifting in and around the area but as said I don't have any wider official figures

Would be very interested to see some though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could find them instead of assuming crime has increased simply because you notice more crimes than you did in the past. That's a bit irresponsible, no?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not imo? I judge on what I see and the stats that used to be released yearly are no longer done in a similar manner so it's difficult to get accurate stats an I already said I didn't have official stats and was only giving a personal opinion?

The Tories really don't want to win do they? Have to wonder if Theresa May is running their campaign.

I so hope that happens as that could actually lose the Tory's what's been a largely safe seat for 20 years

There's usually about 10k-15k votes in it which was probably too big of a swing to lose even with current government failings, but if the right wing vote now splits, that could get quite tasty.

So what you mean is that they cut funding and the police reduced numbers and have since increased them back to previous levels.

The interesting thing is that when you look at the period of time where the police numbers went from 173k to 150k crime continues to decrease and only when the numbers increased did the crime rate increase again.

Them bad apples? Nah I’m only joking.

But it demonstrates my point from the very start that it’s the strategic operations failings of the police, not the police numbers that are the issue.

You can have 370,000 police officers, 670,000 police officers but if none of them are on the streets actually preventing crime then nothing will change.

You can have the same amount of Police officers, but even a brief bit of research shows Sat Nav is of course talking nonsense, again.

So yes, Police number fell year on year due to Tory cuts, that’s not up for debate.

In their push to create a police state in the past five years those numbers have gone back to previous levels, however….

Those numbers are made up of new recruits and actually only replace the ones that have left, so it’s just the normal Tory spin. Furthermore it’s not inline with the increases in population (7% since 2010), so again, more Tory spin.

On top of that, 40% of new recruits are quitting, Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington puts this down to low wages and increase in the cost of living (under Tory rule).

Finally, a third of Police officers now have less than five years experience, double that of five years ago.

In June 2022, Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, the police watchdog, wrote in a letter to the MET via HM Inspector Matt Parr, who said systemic failures had been "amplified by the presence of a relatively young, inexperienced workforce - a consequence of the [Met's] increased recruitment enabled by the police uplift programme".

So not only did the Tories cut the numbers, they’ve then royally fvcked up the recruitment too.

Tories bleating because they claim Labour arent showing Diane Abbott the respect she deserves.

Ypy really, really, couldnt make that up.

Unbelievable. They have been crucifying her for 40 years
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do we not want to improve the standard of politics in the UK? If we’re already finger pointing to the conservatives, then we’re already enabling the same type of cynical politicking seen in the past 10+ years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She shouldnt be able to stand for Labour if they dont want her to
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Define 'Labour'.

There's no evidence that the party membership - and it is supposedly a democratic, membership-guided organisation - want her to be barred.

It'd have been more accurate to write "She shouldn't be able to stand for Labour if the NEC doesn't want her to." Which is an opinion that not everybody, least of all her Constituency Labour Party, shares.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Im not saying they (we) do, Im saying they should, to actually be accurate.

Wonder why crime stats have been going down.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1102428/court-waiting-times-in-england-and-wales/

As of the first quarter of 2023, the mean average for a serious criminal offence to reach a conclusion in the crown courts of England and Wales was 676 days, while the median average was 398 days. Court delays were at their highest in the third quarter of 2021, and while still high, have gradually improved since then
