We don’t even know the context of the cartoon but it apparently wasn’t anything offensive

Maybe we should just get the book of Islam amended and changed to include the allowance of humour, jokes and cartoons

Modernisation to religions isn’t really a bad idea as it goes as pretty much all of them are 100’s of years out of date so if people do still want to believe these fables which is fair enough we could at least help out by modernising them all for the 21st century purposes

Might save us non religious people all this BS constantly

The teacher should be sacked, what he did was stupid. Personally i think the parents are in thier right to protest for his sacking. Hopefully it wont go further than that with any violence

You genuinely think someone should be sacked for showing a cartoon? Are you for real or joking?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No.

I think he should be sack for insulting a religion as an RS teacher

From what I can gather the image of Allah/Muhammad is forbidden to be drawn by human hand.

As usual looks like extremists have hijacked the issue.

How is showing a cartoon insulting a religion? Mohammed would probably have found cartoons of him funny

If you are having a discussion on blasphemy on censorship in an educational context I think you should show the images. Especially when to not do so would seem cowardly after what happened yo Samuel Paty last year.

I refuse to live by other oeopke’s blasphemy rules in this country.

Most the people protesting arent parents, they are young men who heard about the incident and seek to intimidate
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah i do agree with this too, a lot will depend on the context but it wont be seen that way and the school has to do something or the problems will just escalate

Not necessarily true, as posted earlier there are multiple examples of artwork and paintings of Mohammed - the Sunni concept of forbidding drawings is relatively recent.

I posted links earlier today.

Not something I'm particularly knowledgeable on tbh .

Just found the information on wiki which seems to suggest it's a fairly contentious issue.

I believe from a documentary I watched many years ago on religious art, that Mohammed had criticisms of art and chastised one of his wives for buying a painting, proclaiming art to be a rather futile endeavour. Which consequently led to art being expressed through textiles, in particular Persian rugs.
