Catching a whiff of faaaagsmoke will expose you to a smell you don’t like for a few seconds, which is intolerable, and you will instantly get cancer and die. There is also the risk of a small fleck of hot ash landing on your clothes, causing you to combust like the Human Torch. Maintain a safe distance of at least 100 metres.

This reads exactly like a Barry post.

Always has been a strong, anti-alcohol lobby.

Doesn’t seem like a ‘strong’ lobby when it’s the only time an MP was elected on prohibition.

Kinda why I posted it, 1922.

LOL

Im mean lobby.

Organisations amdn Institutions who seek to influence a legislator on an issue. There are many who work together when it comes to alcohol misuse

UK MPS dont usually get elected on single issues.

From a health perspective I'd be more worried about our collective relationship with alcohol as a nation. Drinking excessively is known the 'British disease' since the days of gin alley & mothers ruin in the 17th (?) century. We often see it as a point of pride the amount we drink compared to our European neighbours. We tend not to drink socially but to get leathered. The by products of drinking are, IMO, more detrimental to society than smoking both tobacco and weed.

Where we buy our booze is also another issue, as Pranks alluded to earlier. Pubs are being squeezed with tied in pub chains, higher taxation and higher costs whilst it's cheaper and easier to buy the same alcohol in a supermarkets leading to either drinking at home or pre loading.

But someone smoking on a table 6ft away in an open air garden is a bigger worry apparently

They must be crap at lobbying considering alcohol (still) is subsidised in the bars of Parliament.

Obesity is probably the biggest one for me if we're looking to tackle any kind of health crisis as a country. 26% of the UK in 2021 were deemed obese and it's constantly on the rise.

Diabetes, blood pressure, heart problems etc, all things the NHS has to deal with when a lot of it is preventable.

Agree.

Both are health concerns. You can though drink sensibly over 50-60 years and it not be a health issue at all. A glass of wine, bottle of beer or 2 in the evening for example.

If you smoke for 50-60 years I don't think you will be so lucky.

Smoking is certainly more dangerous for me.

Yet treatment of alcohol abuse costs the NHS more than treatment of smoking related issues. Far less people smoke than drink regularly. Plus the notion of a glass or two at the end of a day is more the exception than the rule for us Brits IMO.

Parliament's shut for Summer Recess but I agree she should stay indoors, along with every other MP until it opens for business again.

Labour got rid of the previous MP for Ilford South because he stood on a picket line with striking workers and replaced him with someone who rents out flats with black mould and ant infestations.
