Not sure what to make of all of this so I suppose I can’t really have a right moan about it.
It’ll affect me directly with meaningful taxation on a personal level and will also impact my businesses financially. All in all however it’s sustainable and shouldn’t alter our plans although we’ll have to think more about inheritance taxation we will pass on.
It all really depend ends upon general confidence levels and overall market reactions which could have a far bigger and detrimental impact if they don’t buy into her vision. We will see.
I don’t believe however that these measures will raise the funds she says are needed and then we will have the usual face off with unions who will all want a bigger slice of the pie.
Here’s an idea. Why not make public sector pensions comparable to private sector?

Listen to Sunak bleating about making non doms, and business pay more to fund growth and recovery. Clearly should have cut benefits across the board for low paid disabled and workers with families and the unemployed and homeless. Even threatening working people that their employers will now target them to make up for their losses in profit.
posted 1 hour, 54 minutes ago
Most businesses will claw back the taxation impact through a combination of measures and they will include lower salaries on offer and lower increases in the future. They may do it over 2 or 3 years but already they will be looking at next years wage reviews in their budgets.
That’s a given

Broadly supportive of these measures, though businesses like mine will be looking at the effects of this and hoping it will actually lead to a better society rather than just good money after bad.
How patronising though, to cut alcohol duty. “Look everyone, free beer”… that should shut them up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not free beer. It's a cut on draught alcohol which helps pubs. This is a positive for maby reasons, not just for pubs themselves but also highstreets IMO.

I know it’s not free beer! I was being flippant.

These complaints about Reeves changing the debt rules to take into account not just the cost of borrowing but also the benefits are a little boring. All govt is doing is aligning itself with the way the entirety of the business world works; it’s how they always should have been working.
Frankly hilarious that Sunak is shouting about how this budget demonstrates that the Labour front bench has no business experience or knowledge, whilst simultaneously going after Reeves for factoring returns into decisions on borrowing

Sadly true.
That’s largely why I would have leant (much) more heavily on CGT and changes to corporation tax structure.

It is changing the debt rules. She’ll get away with it as long as she doesn’t max it out (she hasn’t so far) and nor does she use it to support day to day spending even in the event of her proposals not giving her the tax receipts she thinks.
What she will have to do is provide far more detail on this “invest” message. It’s sadly lacking

Yeah, it’s changing the debt rules to align government with how all businesses of any size operate. It’s perfectly straightforward and sensible.
I thought there was a fair bit of info on where the infrastructure spending was going. I’d like to know more about their ramping up support for incubator programmes though: that should be a big focus of investment for me, but (as always) getting it right is key.

I think the increase for carers is going to go down well with those who struggle in that situation too.
IMO this budget is a good one. Some people (like people sending their children to private schools) will complain, but I believe the budget targets the areas needed correctly (mostly) whilst clearly trying to look at public services etc.
Critical line from OBR. Despite talk that this is govt for growth and budget for growth, they say: "Budget policies temporarily boost output in the near term, but leave GDP largely unchanged in five years."
