How was I being rude 🤔
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didnt think you were either and was confused
So reading the articles the main concern with reducing the measures seems to be importing certain strains that the current vaccines are less knowingly effective against. This would lead me to suspect that the key activity to limit the risk of a third wave is to limit overseas trips from brits to places with the relevant strains, and to have q-tine procedures for folk coming into the country. I would be interested in understanding the sensitivity of the assumptions around this element of the model.
Some rumours in europe that the bigger countries are considering a deal for Sputnik should the EMA give the go ahead, obviously a few have already skipped the EMA on this anyway - Serbia being the most notable as they are going to produce it in their country now
Sorry Serbia of course is not under the EMA as they are still just a candidate country

An Italian businessman booked himself a flight to Russia to get the Sputnik jab, and I am sure this is happening all the time, if folk can afford to.

I reckon it is too early to go all over Europe and further afield this year, as we will just bring something back....and not a donkey.

I can accept overseas travel restrictions, it is the rest that baffles me.

I presume those in charge make it up as they go along, using medical and scientific guidance, but none of us really know what to do, imo.
I just heard that covid is not spread from hard surfaces as much as first claimed, so although a building was cleaned and hands washed, the main threat was always airborne, from people being too close to each other indoors.
Explains the wave after we all ate out to help out.
Glad I am not making the calls, but I believe in hindsight, closing schools and colleges for best part of two academic years has done more harm than good, but again, it is so complex a decision to make.

A good thread (not by me!) on the latest data behind the 3rd wave concerns.
It also has a link to the detailed paper, which helps add some colour to the likelihood of the significant third wave happening.

Ok let’s see if this happens or not. I’d happily wager that it won’t.
Guess who's getting the first jab on Thursday?
Don't know which one.
Don't care.

Got mine this morning
Was administered by a (I assume as was very young) student nurse who beforehand, had to check with an older colleague there were no air bubbles in syringe.
Back again in June for second jab.
