I'm no gambler, but crack-cocaine machines, where are these?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They are high stakes roulette machines where addicts have lost thousands of pounds in the push of a few buttons in a couple of minutes.
There has been a big lobbying effort to do something about them for ages. Their critics says they are bit providing an unlimited supply of crack to people who are drug addicts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No...
....they are machines where you can buy actuall cracked cocaine
Like cracked black pepper but not as spicy on the throat

Ban them.

In fairness, you'd ban everything except the Labour Party, gay marriage and the Guardian.

Some people will say that banning or reducing the cap on these machines will lead to people simply getting their fix elsewhere, but there's lots of evidence that if properly enforced then banning or restricting access to addictive stuff can actually work well. If not on existing addicts, then on potential future addicts. See the smoking ban for instance:http://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/smoking-ban-uk-smokers-numbers-fall-two-million-19-cigarettes-tobacco-drop-10-years-a7817236.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can only help, you're right in terms of the existing addict, if they're that far down thei raddiction journey they will find their fix somewhere, and only they can get out of it.
But if the option isn't there then the next potentail addict who goes into a bookies at least hasn't got this option available to them.
I know a guy that puts £500 a week into these machines. It’s ruining his life.
Are these specifially cash machines or can you use your shop account / debit card in them?
Pretty sure you can load notes, coins and use debit cards in them as well.

It’s not the machines fault
If people want to put there money in these machines and ruin their lives it’s on them and they deserved to be in the state they are in
No sympathy whatsoever and another case of nanny culture
Going to put people out of jobs because a few cretins can’t control themselves

You ever wonder why someone turns to putting all their cash into a machine liek this? You genuinley think they don't realize what they're doing is harmful, but they do it anyway?
Worst thing about gambling and football is the fact that Skysports have their own website where you can bet on transfers & they have their own rumour page. Beyond unethical.
The ignorance of people is ridiculous. An addiction is basically a mental illness, you can't just flick a switch to control/stop it.

exactly, and so many people neglect the small, yet extremley important, fact that people turn to vices (of any choice) to fill a void in their lives.
The problem exists before the addiction starts, the person uses the vice of choice to try fix the problem, or fill the gap in their lives, the short, yet highly intense "buzz" the addict gets from a bet, a drug, a drink etc. works at first.
But as they then fall into the routine of abuse the addiction becomes the major proble, but to send someone to rehab to just kick the physical addiction isn't enough, the underlying issue that cause the addiction to happen in the first place still exists, so while you can kick the phusical addiction, if the issue still exists underneath then the individual is likely to relapse, hence the huge % of people who do fall off the wagon post rehab.
But you see so many "aw they're just junkies" type of ignorant comments that do nothing but stop advancements in addiction therapy.
Someone that played on our Sunday side used to spend hundreds at a time on the roulette ones in the bookies, even on a good day when he'd won a fair bit, it's not as if he bought anything or saved the money, booked a holiday, paid off any debts, it would just be spent in the machines again the next time.
The actual money he won had no value as it was a matter of time until he lost it again.
Maybe if the machines (or some of them) were built to accept some kind of fake money (and paid out fake money) was a thing, and you could collect the fake money from the Doctors or gambling addiction group he'd have still played until he got better, without as severe lasting damage to his him, his family and finances.
Fck gamblers. Let 'em rot.
