"The crack cocaine of gambling"

I`ve had a dabble with online slots and they are rigged to fack, when you first play they give you some nice wins to get you hooked. Then, slowly the winning slows down and you end up losing regularly. They claim to be 96% fixed odds payout but not in my experience.

To me it doesn't make a difference what changes are made because you'll still end up with a positive and negative anyway.

If you cap the betting, then as they say, they will lose money and ultimately drive people out of jobs whilst saving the gambling addicts more. If you don't, the gambling addicts remain but the betting companies keep going. So there isn't a win-win situation really.

Why will people lose their jobs if the slots are capped?

It's not like there's a hostess by every machine helping you put your money in.

I agree. Society is pushing people to ruin their lives and others around them. But we all have a choice and each choice has a consequence, sadly it also ends up impacting on others. I won’t ever gamble or do these things as I know I’m not invincible and could get hooked, so I avoid it. I’ve not seen many gamblers live good lives. Great grandad lost his house, wife and kids over it. It’s breaks up families. Same with stuff like alcohol.. damages your liver without you knowing till it’s too late as your liver doesn’t have pain receptors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Habitual gambling does only harm. I know many who make a reasonable living from sports betting. They may only have one bet a month or longer and it may be in any type of event. For these gamblers they invest time in researching their bet before placing it.
For example I have known people that follow tennis players on twitter to see what kind of mood, sleep or frame of mind they are in before betting for or against them. This is still gambling, just because they may be staking 10k to win 5k on top does not change that but the difference is if Dave the plumber shoots a 67 in a two ball golf bet and beats Rory Mcilroy in a match bet that particular type of gambler licks their wounds and waits for the next time they have an edge.

A lot of people blaming society

Victim mentality

Again gambling addiction is the fault of the gambler and deserve no sympathy, any addiction is the result of a lack of self control be drug alcohol or whatever. It’s a choice

-----------------
It's a choice but such a monumentally dangerous one that you have to wonder why we make it so easy to access. It's like creating a massive pothole in the middle of the road and having a go at drivers for getting stuck in it when you could just not have the pothole in the first place.

Not to mention that freely allowing gamblers to ruin themselves ends up costing society through crime, welfare dependency etc., as well as being completely unfair on any family that may financially rely on them.

As a former casino manager, fixed prices betting terminals are a take on. It is literally a program which differentiates from manufacturer to manufacturer, but all have the common goal of making money.

Mugs game. Complete career change for me, because no longer did I want to facilitate how it effects people’s lives and I would say I am as liberal as they come. In some cases I have known people can to lose everything in a short period of time.

Can we at least ban all the advertising in football? It's very repellent how gambling companies have attempted to associate their racket with football.

Gambling is a mental addiction which has usually been triggered by something else happening in the persons life.

You can't just say it's nobody elses fault.

It's a tricky one, there is a fine line between trying to help people and removing their freedom.

Getting hammered is bad for you, so maybe alcohol should be capped at 1 percent strength?

Apparen't these machines are over half of the betting shops revenue...you can see why they're keen to retain them at current bet rates

posted on 31/10/17

Also they are only allowed 4 per shop...so they have multiple shops in many places

Saw earlier there's 16 betting shops in ilford within a 2 mile radius. Ridiculous

It needs to go down to £2 but it won't, you can tell by the options and the fact they didn't just do it.

If the options were

2, 10, 30, 50

Then you can tell they'd likely be going with £10.

But considering the options are

2, 20, 30, 50

You can tell it'll be £20, which does fk all

They won't go with the lowest or they would of done it, they'll just make them sign up to a load of BS regulation / help guidelines and cap it at 20.

Changes nothing

Not the bookies as such but online gambling which is even more dangerous in my opinion. The "celebs" pushing gambling on people through TV adverts for easy money depresses me. The likes of Chris Kamara and Ray Winstone. How do they sleep at night? They know they're selling misery to many, many people. Gambling pimps I think of them as.

The high-street gambling industry is basically a reverse Robin Hood, it hoovers up money from the pockets of the poor into those of the company execs. Gambling companies don't provide any actual tangible good or service in return. They literally just transfer money up the pyramid.

Yep. And it's not like they're on a poor street either. One a Sky Sports presenter, and one an established actor.
I can only think they are utterly oblivious to the devastating effects gambling can have on peoples' lives.
