I always thought 'Mecca' was an odd name for a gambling chain.

I look forward to a string of pubs called 'Medina'.

its not an addiction its greed,

No Sympathy at all it was a conscious choice to put those notes into that machine knowing the odds

FYI i have no sympathy for drug addicts either again, their own choice to put the stuff in their bodies no one elses,

Of course it is addiction in many cases, greed is insignificant by comparison in the mindset for the majority who have a problem. People often have a warped concept of addiction and actually losing is part of the addictive action too, the entire process of risk, highs and lows in all part of it. Just like some people enjoy living in a state of frantic worry, they may act as if they want to avoid it yet somehow create it and take comfort from it.

Imo there is a huge issue which is bigger than those machines.

All one needs do is switch on any match and thry will be bombarded with online gambling ads. Imo this is poisoning kids minds and should be banned

Ten prem sides sponsored by betting companies apparently

I've been through rehab, I didn't actually meet a gambling addict, not as a primary issue anyway.

Although I did meet someone who has played in a WC final.

Without reading all posts this does seem to be closest to what I believe is the case. It is nothing to do with greed,it is to be part of the 'action'. Roulette allows this in the bookies every 20 seconds.
I gamble on most things, pay all my bills, feed, clothe and look after my dependents,go on holiday every year and ensure my teenage kids can go on any school trip they wish.
I am an addict in the sense that I may not bet at all for weeks but it may only take a hour or so to do serious money in relation to my earnings. I would seriously recommend a biography about Stu Unger titled the man behind the shades,World Series of poker winner twice.

Personally can’t get it, I just avoid these issues as I see from many it serves no good, same with toxic things like smoking. They are not relieving your pain, they mask it and create more difficult issues. But I won’t judge, to each to their own. But don’t make your life other people’s burden. Take responsibility and face the consequences.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally agree but society now encourages people not to be responsible for their actions due to ever increasing mitigating circumstances. If you don't or have never gambled you could never understand gamblers anyway.
We could never swap roles as I can tell we would hate each other's lives, friends, ambitions.
